Title: Recommend a phone holder for me please
Post by: MetalDan on January 13, 2016, 00:22:44
I'm looking to buy a new mobile phone holder for my i30. What are peoples thoughts on the CD slot mount and also magnets rather than tension clips? Something like these:

While I'm an avid fan of CD slot-mount holders (I use one) I can't get my head around having to open your phone to insert a metallic backplate, that attracts the magnet

I can highly recommend the Exomount Touch. One handed operation and the suction cup works in situations where cheap holders just drop off.

There's also a CD slot model.

Do you have/use bluetooth?

I have and as my phone is paired it auto connects when in the car.

The phone stays in my pocket so no temptation to read any texts if i get one and fall foul of the law.

What is it with old people and the iPhone 6S - seem to be attracted to it like moths   :D

Only teasing - a couple of older (nearing or passed retirement age - not to say that they have retired) people I know have got them recently.

One was my Mum - needed to replace a 5yo smartphone (that really didn't hack it anymore) - so while I was visiting we went phone hunting.  She got an iPhone 6S because the 6S comes in Rose Gold (or some-such name for the colour), whereas the 6 only had a choice of two colours, the difference in features were of little concern.

So now my Mum has a slightly better phone than I do - having only a 6+

I'm with eye30 on this one.

Having a phone in a holder is asking for trouble arising from the temptation to text while driving.

I walk to the local shops every day to buy a newspaper and have to cross the very busy A34 using a central refuge. At peak times there is a slow moving convoy of cars in each direction - and few of the selfish buggers stop to let a poor old wrinkly cross the road. It would cost them nothing - the queue is a mile long. So I stand there, sometimes for a few minutes until I can cross to or from the central refuge. Whilst waiting I look into the car to give the driver the bird for not letting me cross - but only a few see me. The rest are either texting with a phone in a holder or clearly holding the phone under the dash to do it secretly. Bastards
Some ladies are putting on make-up and sitting up to see in the mirror whilst driving... Idiots!!!!!!

Mine is kept secure in my pocket connected by Bluetooth so I can receive calls. I never ever make a call when driving. If I need to - I find somewhere to park the car whilst I make the call.

I guess if you were using the GPS on the phone you might want to keep an eye on it...

I used a work phone the other week which had a small cup and ball magnet to keep the phone attached. But as the car had GPS and blue tooth it was more so you could charge the phone than anything else.

I have brodit holder for my sony. Did a diy L-plate and put it between the dash and air vent. Then screwed the brodit to the L shaped plate. Best phone holder i've had. My phone has charging pins on one side and the holder charges my phone without any usb cable. I think they sell specified air vent mounts for many cars.

+ charging without plugging sockets to my phone
+ quality

- works only for the specific phone
- price

Yes, looks well made and of good quality! I reckon if I had one of those it would last longer than me...  :undecided:
