Title: New family wagon
Post by: FatBoy on February 13, 2016, 05:47:58: To cut a long story short, Mrs FatBoy had an accident in the Terror-can, and it was written off. Luckily she was okay.

Here is the Terror-can after the accident.

It doesn't look like much damage, but the chassis was badly bent. No airbags went off as most of the impact was right front and rear corners.

After a bit of searching, we found a vehicle in Melbourne. It suits us as the kids (who are over 5ft 10, and 6ft) fit in the back, comfortably. Other vehicles we tested did not meet that requirement (including the Santa Fe). It already is set up for camping, with dual batteries and an electronic brake controller, so only a few more mods to go before it is "ticketty boo".

Not planning to. We already have a camper trailer that is under utilised, so that will be first to get ready to use again.

Drinks less than the Terror-can. So far averaging 8.6 l/100km in hilly Tassie. Not bad for a car that weighs 2700kg!!

Fortunately not much city driving for this vehicle. We have started fixing up the camper trailer to get it re-registered too.

I'm fairly happy with her too!!

She likes the car too, so I suppose that is a win/win!!

Most of the roads around here are 80-100km/h limit, so sitting on 80km/h helps. Regardless, even at 110km/h I was getting 8.8 l/100km.

The camper trailer just needed a new jockey wheel and a spruce up. A bit of surface rust is evident which I will scrape off and paint (chipping and painting again, I thought I'd left the Navy). I also need to get new jerry cans for it (one diesel and one petrol), and a new gas bottle for the swing out kitchen.
