Title: Tim's Darkhorse.
Post by: cruiserfied on February 17, 2016, 12:09:13
Its common knowledge of my love for the Accents. Also well known is that i plan on dropping a 2lt Beta2 into a 3dr LC Accent.

Yesterday Dad delivered a very exciting package. The box it came in is a bit bulky but the engine, gearbox, wiring etc have arrived.

(http://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo271/cruiserfied/20160216_171542.jpg) (http://s383.photobucket.com/user/cruiserfied/media/20160216_171542.jpg.html)

2001 XD Elantra 2.0lt non-cvvt 5-speed.
Get this baby stripped and scrap the shell and then i can start looking for another Accent to swap it all into.

Plan is swap it in with bare minimum work to get everything running sweet then start modding for performance. I would also like to try get it engineered and registered too. Would help alot for testing but more interested in making it fast so rego'd is optional.

Thanks Asa.
Will be a slow process and hopefully it doesnt end too soon like the previous Accent which i found had a bent firewall. Wasn't cost effective to repair and was a 5dr so gave me the excuse to scrap it and go the 3dr which is my preference.

Sounds like a good starting base Tim :goodjob: and now the fun begins :)

Looks like it came with some alloy's too.

Thanks Craig.
Yeah some 15" 5-spokes. Funnily enough they're the same rim the old Accent came with in 13" lol. Auscar i think is the brand and i kept them as the tyres only had 2000km on them. Unfortunately the Elantra is 4x114.3 and the Accent is 4x100 so not a straight swap, but future plans are Veloster Turbo brakes with 5x114.3 stud pattern so that'll be another set of rims. Maybe some 16" minilites.

Oh! that's a shame with the sizing.

Minilites are good, as long as they're the modern ones and not the old magnesium type, I had the 13's on my Mini :)

Enkie's and Koya's are nice lite wheels too.

Yeah i've browsed through each of their websites. I do like one or two of the Koya's. Cant remember liking any Enkie's.

I forgot about the Advan racing wheels if you haven't seen them, they're made by Yokohama and have a few nice styles http://www.yokohama.com.au/ADVAN-Wheels.aspx (http://www.yokohama.com.au/ADVAN-Wheels.aspx)

Had a look. Only really liked the GT 5-spoke.

Had another look at Enkie, like the Kojin thats about it.

Koya i like the R5. Same or similar to your current rims?

Hmmmm i think i see a pattern emerging hahaha. Koya ranks top because the transitions are smooth. I dont like sharp angles and steps too much. Not a deal breaker but not as nice as smoothness.

A bit different to mine below, those Advan GT's are nice but 19" and 20" I don't think would fit unless your ripping off the inner guards and flaring the outers ( that'd look sik ) :D

So no, nothing like yours lol.

Didnt even look at sizes to be honest, not serious enough just yet. They do 18's which wouldnt require too much work.
If i was building just for street jollys the 19's 20's would be sweet. Im probably going with 16's, maybe 17's.

I went wrong somewhere - two daughters, neither into cars.   :disapp:

Took the girls out to Oakburn Park to watch the come and try day.
Ashlee (eldest) was loving it even though it was early and only at half pace. Unfortunately Ellie isnt well as i found out and we had to leave 40min after arriving so didnt get to see any full attack runs. She wasnt kidding either, had to pull over to throw up halfway home so i've been on spew duty most of the day. Missus throws in sympathy if she has to deal with it lol.

Spent a little more time on the Elantra. Not much though too bloody hot in the sun at 37*c. If i left a tool in direct sun for more than a minute i couldn't hold onto it.

Anyway, all wiring, hoses, cables etc removed previously. Removed P/S pump, altenator, A/C pipes and driveshafts today. Only thing left before yanking engine/trans is exhaust and engine mounts. Probably have it out next weekend if i get time. Forcast is much cooler too  :goodjob2:

Next door neighbor asked me last weekend what year Accent i wanted. Turns out a mate of his has a 3dr Manual with a blown motor he would be giving away  :crazy1: :crazy1: he was going to find out exactly what it is and let me know but i didnt see him this weekend to chase him up.

Will definately be hassling him first chance i get lol.

Loved my XD Elantra with HVT the Beta is an awesome motor. Bought it brand new and took good care of it. It was a little rocket, got that car up to 200 a few times on a back road (yes I know, this forum condones speeding, yudder, yudder)

Yeah its no secret my love of the Beta2. I just love love love my Accents. Figure combine the two lol.
Had my old LC kiss 200km/h between Mullaley and Tambar Springs once was maxed out downhill. Should be easy with the 2lt in the Accent.

That's not bad, I had an EL Falcon that allegedly hit a rev limiter at 180.....

Definitely will be quicker with the Beta

Got my old X3 Excel Twin Cam up to 160 and she was out of puff

The Excels had a shorter ratio diff. Good off the mark but lacking top end. I will be running the XD gearbox for what im calling "stage 1" which is basically get it in and get it running. Change a few leaking and hard to get to gaskets but other than that no changes to the 2lt.
Next stage might see some gearbox changes, Getz have a nice low ratio which would be good for hillclimbs and around town 😆

I swear by my old X3 sold it with 300,000 on original everything

That car thrashed, paddock bashed, did heaps of stupid shit with it and drove it to and from work for 6 years and never stopped.

The later model Getz got the lower ratios if I remember right.
