Received my renewal letter today and besides the price increasing by 22% they have also increased the excess on window screen replacement from £75 to £90
AND
Repair from £zero to £10.
Will need to be aware of this and check the T&C's/excesses when I get quotes from other insurers.
Any others finding insurers are changing excess this year?

I received my renewal 2 weeks ago - the new premium was to be £470.44. Last year the premium was £224.28. I phoned them to ask if they had made a mistake - but they hadn't - they blamed the increase on the thousands of cars written off in recent floods and some other spurious excuses which includes my age. My insurance was with Allianz by the way and included :-
No claims discount protection.
Voluntary excess £150
Courtesy car for duration of repairs or replacement
Legal protection
2 drivers
10000 miles per year
10 year NCD
I spent literally a week sourcing alternative cover and the best I found was AXA with a premium of £353.16 for the same cover but it includes Europe by default.
Hence my insurance has gone up by 57% - but better than the 109% being quoted by Allianz.

But it never goes down when there is no increase in claims!!!!!!!
Also, they are happy to take the "profit" but when there is a large number of claims they want others to cover the excess over the amount they put to one side to cover "normal" business claims...

Wow! big increases!

Warren Buffet is a big investor in insurance companies. He knows they are cash cows.

Warren Buffet takes the premiums you hand over and invests them diligently to gain a better return on funds.
His companies take on some of the biggest risks that other companies don't have the liquidity to take on.
Clever man that.
As for insurance, From my experience windscreen insurance is a rip off. Get a quote for a new windscreen for cash, then work out how many windscreens you actually replace. I replaced the windscreen on my CW before I sold it. Cost $250 for cash. I had the repair done but I wasn't happy with it (you could see it). If that was an insurance job, I dare say the answer would have been it's legal stiff.
In comparison the last time I looked windscreen insurance was $50 per year....
I reckon if you got a chip, you could take out windscreen insurance in the following year.

Just had my renewal notice from Churchill today. No change to windscreen excess - £10 repair and £75 replacement.
Basic premium (with 9 or more years NCD) is now £236.52, up from £199. 28 last year - nearly 19% increase. A part of this will be the gov't increasing the insurance tax from 6% to 9.5%. My current policy has an excess of £100 for accidental damage.
I checked with comparethemarket and the cheapest deal it came up with was £228 (Hastings Essential) with £245 compulsory excess. Churchill, now with £200 excess, would cost £245 - so actually more than the renewal quote !
I also have 'NCD protection' and basic recovery in the policy and they've both gone up from a total of £46 to £56.
I'll probably stick with what I have, though I'll need to ring them as the credit card they have on file has expired. :)

Like you diablo I've done a bit of checking today and the company I'm with is the cheapest.
The online compare sites put this company either 1st or 2nd BUT at a slightly higher rate than the renewal.
I even went direct to the insurers site, LV=, and did a new quote but this came out just slightly higher as I would need to add legal cover.
I get it free if I renew via union site as I kept my membership of the union when I retired by paying a one off fee.
I'll leave a week or so then check again.
I'll probably stay but as I have to ring up to pay I'll see if they will be willing to reduce the quoted price for a long serving policy holder
I have 2 additional drivers, wife and son, £zero excess for all, business use and protected NCD.
If I take my son off the policy the premium INCREASES!!!!!!

Funny how that works,
It was actually more expensive for me to limit the drivers on my policy than it was to have one without restrictions :crazy1:

Got a multi-car policy with Aviva and for my 2014 1.6 crdi Active BlueDrive i30 and the wife's 2011 Kia C'eed 2 1.6 crdi estate and the premium has increased about £100 from last year for both cars.
Haven't noticed a change in the excesses this year though

That is big increase ,£100, for the two.
Did you look around for other prices?
-
I have, and can't get close on my i30 anyway. Changed from a 1.4 petrol i30 to the 1.6 diesel in October and they never altered the premium then.
Got 1 at fault claim for being hit whilst parked and 3 non fault claims (one of which was since the last renewal) sitting on my record just now as well which won't help.
-
Seems from my dabble getting quotes all have increased premiums this year.
Based on the explanation alanho got is they want to clawback for the flood claims.

Even if retired, previous union membership may still provide legal cover mine does so worth checking..
I thought LV still required all the options Legal Cover, Foreign Cover etc to be added even when taken through CSMA or TU membership.

I'm with unison.
Eu cover, breakdown and loan car optional extra which i only require loan car.
Legal included when policy thro' unison.
If i go direct to lv= or any other insurer then i need to add legal as i was told "free" legal only covers when you have policy thro' unison.
-
You guys prompted me to check my union's insurance offerings. I'm in Unite and popped my details into their site and was quoted over £2600 for just me. My Aviva renewal was under £600 for both cars up from £500 for both last year.
The renewal was still the cheapest I could find so just went with that.
-
So price incease looks the norm this year!
-
Well after searching for other prices, the renewal was the best I could find, unless I wanted to increase my excess from £Nil to say £100 but the saving was circa £15!
Even at £500 the saving was circa £35!
Plus I would have to add legal protection cover to the price.
Rang up insurers and pressed the "I want to leave" button.
Got the same reasons as Alan - high claims due to flood, fraud etc and the increase in premium tax.
Anyway as I was about to say OK lets renew they knocked £15 off.
After a few more ....... well I don't know, may be I can get better elsewhere, how much if I took off my son etc etc........ I decided to stay as with any other insurer I would have to pay for legal cover at £20 to £30 a year.
So renewed for another 12 months.
Now to sort out the MOT and service in May

Proud of you Lester :D
