Title: Gran Canaria Pictures
Post by: AlanHo on February 21, 2016, 13:54:19
We spent most of today exploring the hotel and gardens. we are quite impressed, it fully lives up to it's brochure promises. This was followed by a 2 km walk along the sea front paseo (promenade) to a shopping centre to buy today's English daily mail newspaper and catch up on the Eurofarce. We think we are going to enjoy Gran Canaria despite the poor start at the airport and the disappointing Citroen C4 cactus car.

"unless you were a member of a splinter movement"
Alan, did you mean a "sphincter movement"?

TPMS Warning notice
(http://i.imgur.com/PGS2U8B.jpg)

It was after I took the above photos that I had a deep dig into the menu system. Several layers down I reached a menu that enabled me to change the language to English – which was very helpful. Further staggering around the tiled menu led me to a page where it described the tpms system in detail and explained that after tyre pressure adjustments - the system had to be reset. Further browsing revealed another page telling you how to do it – which I did – and the tyre pressure warning signals have now been cancelled. Interestingly, the manual explains that the system is based on comparing the relative speed of the wheels to detect any tyre that has lost pressure. There is no sign of a sensor on the neck of the tyre valves  - they look perfectly standard.

Being able to access an owner’s manual on the screen is useful because there is rarely one in a hire car. This is the only compliment I can pay the dash – it remains ugly, difficult to use and in my opinion dangerous.

Whist farting about with the menus system I came to a page which described the internet browsing feature. I have not yet read it so cannot imagine how it functions. I suspect you can connect your phone and browse using the car screen.

So it's not so much a "woody" as a "plasticky" then.  :) :)

Just before you hand the car back, change the menu language to Outer Mongolian.

If the pill boxes were removed from the doors and the black trim painted in the body colour it wouldn't look half bad.

I found this registration document in the glove box. It confirms it was first registered on 18th Feb and has a 1200 cc engine. WOW - only 1.2 litres and with so much grunt from 1200 rpm on up. I'm impressed.

These types of engines are going to be a serious threat to diesel sales.

Here are few pictures grabbed at random from my phone showing some of the sights being enjoyed by a couple of old 73 and 78 year old fogies.

Nice photos, Alan.  Although I can't see any old people in any of them, unless they are in the car on the road.   :goodjob:

The Cacktus averaged 41.8 mpg (6.8 l/100k) over the 236 miles (379 km) we travelled during the week. Considering that about a third of this was on tortuous and steep mountain roads where I never got higher than 2nd gear - I think economy was very good. The engine performance was very spirited - spoiled only by a gruff and noisy engine note.

Getting back into the Venga for the 100 mile drive home from Heathrow was heaven - a much smoother and quieter ride with comfortable seats and a smooth auto box. Can't beat it.

Now for unpacking - not my favourite job.
