Hi
Has anybody had a prolblem with an fd i30 crdi immobiliser. No icon on dash when key is put into ignition or when ignition is turned on. Car will not start. Have tried both keys. Last keys fell apart so tried to start with metal part of key on its own. Looks like it immobilized. Have now fixed key with new case. All buttons working for door locks. Have tried both transponders. Still no icon. Seems like motor is starving for fuel. Tries to kick over every now and again. Had to recharge battery overnight. Plenty of kick in battery. Thanks Peter

:welcome: Definitely sounds like immobilizer. Try disconnecting negative battery terminal for minimum of 30 minutes to reset BCM. Don't think it will work, but might. Otherwise a visit to Dealer I think. See what others say. Will need to be patient. Some of our tech heads are on more often than others.

And its Easter .....

I have to agree with Dazz on the battery disconnect trick before you try anything else. The ECU could also be confused as you said you tried starting with the metal key with the transponder not near the induction loop in the ignition barrel.
Strange that it doesn't work with both keys

Thanks
Yes well I actually had the battery out of the car all night while it was in charge. Battery now has plenty of kick. The starter motor is working nicely. Every so often it's like a drop of diesel gets through the pump and it sounds like it wants to start then just goes back to nothing except the starter motor.
The annoying thing is this all happened while I was fixing the two faulty keys. One had the lock button rubber pad worn away. The other had the unlock button rubber pad worn away. So I have been using a little piece of stick to poke down the hole and click the relay. That works for a while until the relay falls apart. So. Two keys two broken relays and two worn out rubber pads. But I managed to unsolder one relay on one key and solder it on to the other. Made one good key out of two. All locks working. Can get in and out of the car no problem except it doesn't start anymore. Tried two different transponders. Starting to wonder if I have an immobiliser at all. Maybe just a blocked fuel pump or something similar. ???

Hi hispeedpeter
:wttc:
Strange the immobilizer light have disappeared. I think the immobilizer works as intended and the problem is the ECU doesn't recognize the new keys. I believe you need to have both keys programmed at the Hyundai dealer.
-
Makes sense Asterix. The motor might turn but the solenoid won't engage if the car isn't immobilised - at least that's what I remember from my old Mitsu L200. I ended up bypassing it and wired it to my park light circuit as a quick fix

Do you have at home breakdown cover?
If so, get them out but wait until the dealers is open as if they can't fix it they should tow you to the dealers as part of the service.

There appears to have been suggestions about reprogramming the keys - seemingly on the basis they are 'new keys'. However my understanding (from the text in red) is that hispeedpeter has simply got new cases (implication of swapping the electronics and key from old to new case).
So my 'belts and braces' approach to this is to ask (apologies if it seem insulting)...
- Did you swap the Immobiliser RFID chip/transmitter into the new case? It is separate and not physically connected/wired to Keyless-Entry transmitter (the one with buttons - that has been swapped).
- The key-fob/transponders have two separate transmitters/transponders in them.
- A quick and simple test (but not 100% guaranteed), if unsure, would be to hold the parts of one of the old cases up against the ignition while trying to start the vehicle - the end where they key came out closest to the ignition barrel
The Immobiliser transmitter is passive (it is not powered by the battery - but rather inductively from a coil in the ignition), is small and located in the fob near where the key goes into the ignition. It is possible to overlook if it isn't known about. Without it the immobiliser will remain active - as the Keyless-Entry only unlocks the vehicle. Being 'passive' (and without battery) they are highly reliable - except when the coil in the ignition fails or becomes unplugged (seemingly very rare - but is known to have happened), though I doubt that would happen at exactly the same time you got new cases.
The following video (which I think is linked in some other post on the site already) shows
- the removal process starting about :link: Hyundai Flip Key Shell Replacement @ 45secs - YouTube (https://youtu.be/5kTR-oYA_4o?t=45s)
- and showing the removed transmitter at about :link: Hyundai Flip Key Shell Replacement @ 1min45secs - YouTube (https://youtu.be/5kTR-oYA_4o?t=1m45s) - be very careful (as covered in the video) getting this out if you haven't already.
- and later in the video shows how to refit it - :link: Hyundai Flip Key Shell Replacement @ 4mins30secs - YouTube (https://youtu.be/5kTR-oYA_4o?t=4m30s) - I assume the paper tape is to help with getting a snug fit AND also so the adhesive bonds to it rather than the rubber cover as long as not too much adhesive is used.
If you haven't swapped them over - then I can only hope you have not thrown out the old cases (and/or you have not had garbage collection day since if you did) - otherwise you will need new keys from Hyundai which will be expensive.

I think you mean 'switch' rather than 'relay' - the three silver and white things in a row along the center of the PCB in the video at :link: Hyundai Flip Key Shell Replacement @ 39secs - YouTube (https://youtu.be/5kTR-oYA_4o?t=39s) correct? They are SMT/SMD (aka Surface Mount) momentary-NO switches (hard to know if it is DPST; or SPST with two legs per electrical 'side' - not that knowing that is really relevant to this topic).

Good Posting Gareth! Hope Peter kept the old bits! :sweating:

You guys on the i30 club are too good! I thought I had transferred the transponder to the new case however the thing I transferred is just the white cover over the top of the little black transponder. So like the YouTube video shows you need to do a liitle digging into the old cover and there it is. A little black chip. So I pulled the new key case apart again (20th time) and put the real black little transponder in there and YEAH! Keys work on all doors. Icon lights up. Car works. Easter Monday is looking real good. Thanks guys for all your comments and help! Hope I can return the favor one day.!!!

Yep. I found out that there is a transponder (black hard to see) and a transponder cover (white easy to see and some people like me think it is the transponder)
So all good now. Thanks for your advice.

Not a problem - glad we could help.
I do recall, when first seeing the video, thinking the white thing was the transponder and wondering WTF was the person in the video doing now tearing the old case apart?!?
But I haven't actually changed the innards of my key-fobs before - my keypads wore, I got a pair of new cases and just used the keypads from them to replace the old (but the buttons in mine hadn't totally came away before I did that).
