Title: How much should I be paying? (Australia)
Post by: IshirikkoG4M on September 13, 2009, 15:52:50
Hello from Melbourne,

I am looking to buy an i30 CW 2.0L manual with Protectz and would like to have some idea of the sort of price I ought to be paying "deal" wise. This is the first time I have been looking to buy new and have no experience of the sort of negotiating you need to do to get a decent deal. I have spoken to a couple of dealers but all they have done is give the list price, refusing to do any better unless I agreed to buy right then. I have no idea where I should start the negotiating and could really do with some advice. One more thing, there is no trade-in.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Cheers,
IshirikkoG4M

Thanks for your help Shambles.

That gives me at least some idea of where I should be starting.
Let the negotiations begin.

Cheers,

Welcome IshirkkoG4M ... Remember, a cash buyer with no trade is in a very strong position.. don't be frightened to walk away if they won't negotiate. If they see you are genuine they will follow you up with a better deal. Good luck :-)

Thanks Guys for the good wishes.

Dazz, I am glad to hear that a cash buyer is in a strong position, I was beginning to believe that they preferred a trade-in as they would make money off that.

I have steeled myself to the walk-out part of the negotiations, in fact one dealer I spoke to was quite obnoxious so I would positively relish walking out on him.

I will let you all know how it turns out.

Cheers,
IshirikkoG4m

don't be afraid to quote one dealer's price to another. even if the yard is another 'branch' of another hyundai dealer.

i did and it got me a much better price and some freebies!

let them know that youre shopping around and that you are trying other makes (a great time to pretend you're clarkson driving 20 cars in one week for topgear )

normally that inspires them to realise that you are serious about buying a car.

but make sure you SHOP AROUND! cannot stress that enough.

Hi,

well the deed is done. i30 CW 2.0l manual with protectz and tow bar, $23,250.
The dealer claimed he was only making $289 on the deal but I doubt that.
At least I hope I didn't get too ripped off. It's red by the way. No idea of delivery date at this point.

Cheers,
IshirikkoG4M.

Need to be careful with comparisons though Steve, as time goes by, Hyundai will discount more and more.
