Title: and she shall be driven like the snow
Post by: snowcherry on September 14, 2009, 07:51:04
YES!!!!

i now officially own an i30
(and yes it took long enough)

i got the crystal white SR i'd be eyeing off, i pick her up on wednesday

still not overly happy with my deal but i'm comfortable with it - came to about $25500 with my trade in plus free floor mats. my father was exceptionally generous and gave me a gift of the extra i couldn't afford - god bless him.

so now i just really want some tinting and i need new plates as my old ones are blue; and she shall be my snow chariot.....so perrrtty!

---------

so i brought my Snow home today - she sure is perrty!
i decided to grab a couple of extra accessories - i got the slimline weathershields and wheel nuts on 'special' (no idea how special that worked out to be) and he threw the ipod cable in for free! and i got premium fuel tank top up about $36 worth. so in all - yay!!

my plates look weird on a different car.
and i had to quickly duck into the shop on the way home and sat in the carpark terrified that some idiot would drive into her

couple downer things to note today
mainly i have a RATTLE!!!!!
it's somewhere in the right front corner around the speaker perhaps. i'll check it out tomorrow and see if i can pinpoint it. it started about halfway home on a 30 odd k drive after i'd 100 for awhile. not happy about that at all

secondly: someone had popped the back seats down and there's a major indentation - three of them actually - caused by the seatbelts, in the leather. has anyone else had this and does it spring back out? also one seat rear is still smooth but the other (the one with the indents) has sorta gone a bit loose
i really don't recall this at all from my testdrive and honestly didn't check the backseats on monday while doing the deal. i pointed them out to the dealer today though, and he said if it didn't spring back up he have hyunadi fix it up under warranty...?? i think i recall someone else having loose leather seat problem??
had  a minor scratch on the inside drivers side on the plastic but think it will clean up fine.
got the full size alloy spare.
mmmm all looks good....

i didn't get it til pretty late today and just drove home and parked. will have a better play tomorrow
:D

I have the same problem, I drive in the left side of the car so its usually hard to check exactly where the rattle is coming from,
If the rattle is loud I sometimes pull the door panel gently towards me and the rattle stops, I think its the small clips that hold the door panel on the door, I removed some of them one time and the rattle stopped but came again, my next step is trying to grease up the clips, I hope that works.

^mmm bugger Hemmi
took her for a very quick drive today and yep the rattle is definantly there

BUT i played with her a bit, and took a couple of piccies and tried to get used to where the my corners etc are (its a bit bigger than the festiva after all) - actually its so much zippier than i expected.

one drawback i have found is that is doesn't like reversing easily. like with a small tap, it sits there and doesn't move. but that is something i know i'll adjust to pretty quickly.

i showed it off to my dad today and he liked it! he was quite impressed with all the little bits an dbobs i got for th emoney and is jealous i have both a power socket and a lighter and not to mention a real ashtray. i don't smoke so doesn't bother me, but it' s asore point with him and his beloved ford.

i'm just so WOW'ed by this little car. its such an amazing big step up from my festiva. little things like having the boot unlock with the whole car, having a mirror on the visor WITH  a light, the sunglasses holder (already in use), the cup holder fits an extra large water bottle THANK YOU!!! not to mention the spiffy seats and nice dash and the extra power socket in the boot and getting cruise control....and oh stuff it you all have one...i'm just so happy!!!!

I hope you get done to the bottom of the rattling..I'm glad I don't have that problem because it would drive me bonkers... I'm still waiting on the dealer to get back to me on my loose spoiler and I just realised that one end of my side skirts is also a bit loose.  I have my first service tomorrow so hopefully it will all be fixed.

Congrats on the new car.  Did you have tint installed?  Maybe they didnt clip something back in properly when they took off the door trims to tint the windows, just a thought - seeing it happened so quickly after leaving the dealers.

you know today it didn't rattle!  well not on the right anyway. it started rattling on the left.
i got hyundai to look at it anyway while they were putting my weathershields on but they could only hear a light 'creak' which i heard on the drive home. so obviously the "rattle" is changing - perhaps hopefully its just settling in and won't stay around.

i thought my sunnies wouldn't fit either, but i worked out if i put them in sort of lying side down they go in...i was going to be rather put out if i couldn't use the holder. it took me a day to figure that out and had the holder open for most of it

not yet, its not booked in for another two weeks.
i played around yesterday pushing at the seams of the car and today it didn't rattle as i mentioned.
after hyundai played with it today the kid there said he pushed on the tweeter a bit and thought it 'clicked' in and after that was when he said it was creaking, which i noticed to when i drove home. so the noise is coming from around that corner.
i'll leave it til the tint is done at least and just see how it settles etc

and thank you :)

rather than make any special announcement
i got window tinting done today

*boogies*

i have noticed one air bubble around the silly little warning sticker on the driver side, you know i assumed they would just peel them off and never thought about it, anyway
i would have liked a tint strip along the top of the windscreen like my old car had but apparently its set legally by how high your wipers travel, which with the i30 is too high. bit of a bummer. i'm a bit of a shortie so i get blinded at certain times of the day even with the visor right down.

and i get a dash mat and rear mudflaps on friday,.
looking good Snow!

the tint is darkest legal, though i don't think it looks particularly dark  - i've never had it before so its very new to me. he showed me another car beforehand which did look quite dark. he said it still has some drying yet so may still go a tad darker but also mentioned the hyundai doesn't have  a particularly 'dark' glass to begin with like ford for e.g do. but i did notice when driving to work the shade difference between the window to the windscreen so all good  :D

I've gone for 20%.. trust me I wish I didn't because I have to squint or have my window down at night.. it's actually a bit freaky driving out late with no cars on the road and not being able to NOTHING but pitch black when looking at the rear view mirror.  I listened to the old man in getting the darker tint.. if I listen to him I'll also be getting angel eyes... noooooo....

Get those LED Angel wings Tracey.. you know you want to...  And the dual exhaust... do it, do it, do it...

so Snow went past 1000 k's today (like a mini birthday really )
she'll be off to her 1st service very soon, hopefully friday if i can book it in

so some brief impressions (my own benefit more so)

still find her "flighty" but fun
disappointed in the road noise level to some extent
exceptionally happy with her overall performance e.g takeoff, power, zippiness
have been a bit down about how much getting out the tank but its possible its not actually being "filled" to quota so still testing this
reversing can be slow/heavy sometimes
notice i've felt much more comfortable over a week of driving in the car, i have a bad back/neck and a week driving in my old car could be tough some weeks.
cruise control is great and helps with aforementioned back problems
disappointed in stereo speaker quality for my high expectations but it is adequate enough
she is pretty pretty pretty.....did i say pretty?
i have a rattle in my rear vision mirror - get looked at in 1000k service.

while it may seem some downers outweigh my good points, that is far from the truth in driving. i am so stoked in this car. while i am certainly getting used to it, and tiny littlle things here an dthere could be improved, i am just enthralled and really enjoy driving it. i am very happy with Snow

Oh yeah... standards have changed.
Those mechanics would do that all day, every day...
Stop at the pub on his way home for a schooner or seven, then DRIVE home.
His Mrs would have had half a snag, three spuds, and a left over carrot in the cupboard... but she would whip him up a 4 course gourmet meal from it, and have it waiting for him on the table.

Yeah,  things sure have changed !

You wouldn't DARE drive after more than one schooner these days !!!!!

LUXURY!
after grandads long day pulling apart and rebuilding a whole car in a day while drinking on the job, having seven plus pints, he would return home to my grandma slaving away over a woodfire stove cooking up a five course meal out some bread, gruel and and a piece of spinach!

You'll find the economy improves after 10-15k km.  I find the stereo sounds much better with MP3 - it sounds a bit flat listening to the radio tho.

had my 1000k service today :D

they changed my oil and filter (even gave me some left over oil back of what i'd bought!) so that cost me $20 today plus $35 for the oil itself from supercheap.
my tinkly sometimes rattly rearvision mirror didn't make a single peep of noise today so they found nothing wrong with that.
they tightened up the dash to the lower right of the steering wheel a little where it creaks a fair bit, though sadly this hasn't helped (may need loosening off instead?),
and finally left a dirty black mark on my nice white door handle grrrrrrrrrr. and another greasy mark of some description on the gear lever handle thingy whatever its called (no idea i'm tired)

are you saying the $20 was cheap for the filter replacement and oil change?
on the invoice i've been charged only for the filter and the sundry, no labour or anything

and yes its at the dealer  :)

i seem to recall when i got some initial service quotes my first 15000 km one they said would be about $210 maybe, which seems to be one of the lower quotes i've seen floating around the forum

That's bloody cheap!!!
Was that a Hyundai dealer or a local mechanic??

That seems fair as the 1000 service is normally free if you want the oil and filter changed and supply your own oil they only charged for the filter which is normally about A$21.35 down here...
