I changed it today, the tensioner was aftermarket - costed 100€
The mechanic changed it all by removing front right tire.
The old belt had still visible printings - it was 1810 (I think) mm in length
New one was 1815.
The old tensioner was loosely (the roller)
I also changed 2 rollers (original)
The new tensioner had a plastic roller where the old one had metal one. I hope I'll be fine for the next 100k km.
Still, I am concerned about the sound - I still can hear some strange noise from the belt position while in idle with hood up.
The mechanic also changed the fuel filter - after 50k km. I didn't pick it up to inspect it later home :(
I wonder what it looks like because i read that clogged fuel filter can cause speed limit or hard cold start bit I haven't had any trouble.
Recently I drove 170km/h for a short time, which is near the speed limit of the car (172). Actually it was 164 according to GPS. Winter tyres were on.
Now I have to change the break fluid, also clutch fluid (which I don't know where it is), and manual transmission fluid.
Also clean and maybe change the front pads which sometimes make squeaky noise when turning wheel left or right, or when I low-to-half press the break.
Changed also cabin and air filter after one year.
The air filter looked grey from both sides which worries me and I am not putting the cheap ones back in there anymore.

AFAIK there are 2 serpentine belts for the i30. If the old one has done 100k and is still 1810, how can a new one be 1815. I suspect the noise could be vibration of the tensioner, possibly unable to keep the belt correctly tensioned. I wouldn't be doing any high speeds until that was checked out.

I wouldn't recommend plastic pulleys either :Shocked: long time heat exposure will cause it to become brittle.

My brothers Ford Falcon had plastic pulleys on it, became brittle and gave way.
I had a weird noising coming from the serpentine belt on my diesel i30. Ended up being failed baring on the Alternator pulley.

Apparently the length doesn't matter and the right size is nowhere to buy. Someone here also reported about this "problem". Tested today 160km/h speed, all went well.
I hope the plastic pulleys will ebdure for the next 100 kkm
Phill I don't know about the other serpentine belt.. Maybe my English is bad but it's the one and only belt visible under the hood.
The okd tensioner had "side movement" where it should be fixed.
I think it is all right (for now).

The "Other" belt would be the 2010 length belt. There is only 1 belt actually fitted to you engine.

There are two options for my car 1800 or 1815. Parts dealer could not find out which is the right one, so he sold me 1810. Works just fine. There is only 15mm difference in the lengths of the two belts. That sees to be so small difference that if the belt tensioner works as it should few mm difference in the length does not seem to cause any trouble.
I did not measure the the old belt, but I would guess that during time the belt streches few mm with wear and tear. With automatic tensioner it should not be a problem. Cars with manual tensioners might be a bit more picky about the belt length.

1815 & a bit of stretch may still be too much fpr the tensioner, otherwise, why are there 2 parts available.

That I would like to know. Also I would like to know why there are two different size oil filters and why there are two different part number for glow plugs...

I will check the exact number on the original belt - but I think it is 1811. When buying - there are only 1800 or 1815 available. So I guess it's in the bormal operating range for the tensioner.

I checked it and yes the length of the original was 1811
There was also a " sk545 " written there, what does it mean?

Online a 5PK1815 at Sparesbox is $43-48
The 5PK1811(BOSCH) is only $30, I just bought two of these and made in South korea so should get along with the rest of the car :crazy2:

Thx for the info, mine was 1811 and i changed it with contitech 1815
Next one will be bosch 1811, I taught you can't buy one with that size
