Title: mixing oils ?
Post by: John B on May 10, 2016, 05:47:23
Hi all.   I have been using 5 ltr cans of Nulon 5W 40 and have now changed to Nulon 5W 30. As the i30 petrol engine only takes 4 ltr of oil, after 4 engine oil and filter changes I now have 2ltr of 5W 40 left  and 2ltrs of  5W 30.   The question is can I mix these 2 oils to make up 4ltrs for another oil change or is this a no no ?

Thanks.

Your car will now have 5W35.  :D

But seriously, it should be fine, as the 5W40 exceeds the 5W30 min spec, so if the lower number is acceptable, logic says there should be no problem. I have done it before myself but not on my i30 and involved 1 litre of a different grade which I had left over.

John, as they're the same brand and additives with only difference being viscosity you'll be fine to mix :goodjob2:

Thanks fellers ,
That will knock the price of my next service down along with my genuine Hy filters I bought for  $9,23 each. :victory:    5W 35
