Title: Peeling interior door handle
Post by: Pikapolonica on May 12, 2016, 06:30:25
I know there are past posts but can't reply to them.

I noticed the front left and right interior door handles bubbling and now the left side has actually split and peeled.  I've read that some people have had the handles replaced but my car is now 8 years old and I won't have any luck there!

Best bet would be eBay or...?  Are the handles easy to replace or best a mechanic do it?

The cheapest I can find on ebay for a full new ( non genuine ) set of chrome or black is $100, I've never fit them so cant comment on the difficulty but I believe there are some topics that discribe replacing/fitting them like the two topics at the top of this thread :link: INTERIOR (https://www.i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php?board=61.0)

Chrome  :link: Hyundai I30 2007 2011 SET X4 Chrome Inner Door Handles NEW | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Hyundai-I30-2007-2011-Set-x4-Chrome-Inner-Door-Handles-New-/181615582365?hash=item2a4921dc9d:g:58QAAOSwvU5XM-~j)

Ended up buying these: :link: Hyundai I30 2007 2011 Right Hand Front Chrome Inner Door Handle NEW | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/181449755433?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT) (also for left) as rear doors are fine.

Good price. Now to find someone to swap them cheaply.  :goodjob:

Why?

Watched a You Tube video so I think dad can manage to change, otherwise I'll ask mechanic to do.

@Pikapolonica   Just sayin' how many of these things have been sold - indicates how often they fail.

looks to be a common affair these chrome covered plastic handles.

Just reading the comments and looking at the links etc.  generally I'm pretty good at digging things up but I must admit I did not do too much homework. New car, new brand means I need to find the best sources of parts.

So far I've done the rear left, $75. This week, the front left  came loose. Another $75. Seen them on Ebay for a little less and then we have the copies at $30.

So I'm looking at key blanks at $60 but there a Korean Ebayer for $25 but if you go to their direct website, $20.

Handles? Well, turns out the $75 handles can be had genuine for about $8 USD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :crazy2: :disapp:

Even postage is cheap.

here's some part numbers for the chromies. Please check them just in case

I found it under Australia, Elantra. Entered my VIN and all the details matched up. Paint, year engine number even.

Hell, I'll wait then although I don't expect any major issue. The Ebay feedbay is acceptable @ 99%

I've had Mitsubishis for years and got pretty good at getting OEM numbers and located parts across the globe.

If KORAPS turns out ok there's some other bits like the trim around the steering wheel where the buttons are that gets scratched up . Not stocked but seeing $6 USD. It's hard to believe what I'm reading is right.

Some overseas postage charges must be quite low compared to Australia post. We have recently bought some paperback books from the UK that only cost A$7.99 including postage and arrive in less than two weeks.  :goodjob:

If KORAPS turns out ok...

I got some parts from Koraps 2 years ago, it took 3-4 weeks to arrive, but everything was in original Mobis/Hyundai boxes.  :)

I have ordered parts there couple of times. Same thing with Asterix: 3-4 week delivery time and mobis/hy parts. Cheap parts if you are not in a hurry. Will order parts there again when in need.

Nice, 2 weeks. that's what I'd expect. So what was the final amount delivered after conversion?

It came to a grand total of $20.06.... :)

With our dollar now being a bit higher than when I paid you may well get it for under $20....  :D

Hi,

I had another solution to the problem, the handle does not need to be replaced and it does not cost an arm and a leg :)
The only thing I have ordered is a vinyl carbon foil from aliexpress for 2.23$ and covered the interior handle with that. OFC first I removed that chrome thingy as much I could and gave a bit of sanding to them and the result is fine. Does not know how long it will last, but it is OK for now...

Any details about how difficult the actual replacement process was?

:-[   I haven't actually got around to fitting it...  :-[

The piece of sticky tape wrapped around the old one is still doing a marvelous job so I keep putting it off.

One day....maybe...  :D

Anyone had any luck installing one of these handles?  Having the same problem with RH Driver's Side, cut my finger on it this morning.

Remove the handle trim. (Single screw behind all flap)

Remove  screw from door grip  handle ( similar flap )

Check the outer edge of the door card  there may be a single self tapper. I don't remember precisely could be the back doors but it's visible.

Pop the card off the door but be careful the clips break easily. I usually break 1.

The wiring harness to the window controls needs to be disconnected as it will stop the card coming off.

Remove the 3 screws holding the handle assembly.

Disconnect the cabling.

Installation is the reverse
