I'm afraid so, i was so mad as i thought all I30's came with it, one of the reason's i went for the car, saw one it the showroom on a cw and hatch and love it... "great place to put sweetie for the kids, a place for the satnav" WHAT a disappointment it wasn't there. Still love the car, each to their own, some people hates it because of noise but i liked it

All new UK cars are czech built without this compartment. I'm in two minds to fit it, but some have said it rattles.

Anyway, maybe next time someone removes their radio on a car equipped with the top storage compartment they could look at the partnumber sticker and lets us know the part. I rekon we could order them then.

The only thing that rattles in mine is the endless pile of junk the Mrs throws in it !
The compartment and lid itself, nothing!

Hmm. I wonder how it comes out. no prying with a screwdriver, that's going to mess up the dash.

Shambles - thanks, I'll see if its available on the parts database next time I visit the dealer to see it the card has materialised.

That does look tight. If Hy (Czech) have used a cover with 4 or 6 grabbing points then that cover will not come out easily. I wonder how the service depts would cope with a radio warranty issue, as there are three fascia/cage mounting screws under that cover that would need to be accessed.

Lorian why not ask them if they have been given instructions for removing the cover. I'll bet it's not on the HMA website but I'll have a ganders later.

I think elantra has it so I don't think it will be on there. I'm pretty sure my dealer won't know, they are new (I have ony seen 2 i30's in my home town so far, and one of those was today!)

Well if you have not got it you want it.
over here we have all got the storrage thingy, but if i remeber right we all wanted to replace it with a GPS. so just swap a GPS for a i30 with some big hearted Aussie and we will send you the storrage thingy over
sorry your cars don't come with them, i use mine to store the E Tag.

it looks as tho it can be just put in,if you can get that cover off. it may just clip on because an i30 with the lid has screws inside it you need to remove to get the radio fascia off                                      look in non model specific under spray painting the dash.it show it there.    no,in TZWIENTJUH,S post about paiting your dash.

Not been in to the dealers, think they are not my firend because I keep bugging them about delivery. anyway, from a russian i30 site I have found this is Mobis (hyundai OEM spare parts) part number MB1017

See about half way down:

http://www.koravto.com/catalog/car_accessories... (http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=ru&u=http://www.koravto.com/catalog/car_accessories/section.php%3FSECTION_ID%3D196%26print%3DY&ei=o2u6SuGVEtbKjAf_4Pz8BQ&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=4&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3DMB1017%2Bi30%26hl%3Den)

I wouldn't actually try an order it from there though, unless you are Russian....

They originate direct from korea though.

Edit - actually there are some other really interesting accessories on that page I haven't seen elsewhere....

KSPEC have said they can supply the cobbie hole (centre console top storage compartment) for "$40-$50 including all the costs".

So I wonder if thats $40 or $50? That would be about £25-£30.

I've decided I'm brave enough to try ordering one (even if its $50), but will need to confirm the blanking plate comes out and the mounts are below first of all.....

I've emailed one of the larger UK dealers parts dept to see if they can supply too.

Are you brave enough to see if the panel comes off? Not quite sure how to do it without causing damage....

Cool. if it will come out easy then I will order one and see what comes.

I can't realky ask my dealer much at the moment, I've been nagging about delivery, they are probably fed up with me.

Hey Ray, sorry, Hippo. Have you got a set of feeler gauges?

I reckon using a medium/thin feeler gauge you could "sample" the way the cubbyhole cover has been fitted, by going round it gently noting where the grab points are.
