Hi all, forgive me if this has been covered already. I recently purchased an i30 activeX 2016 model. I am looking to replace the license plate bulbs with ice blue LED bulbs. But I can't figure out how to get them out to replace. Can anyone assist? Thanks!
-
I don't think blue type LED's are legal in Oz. Surely you don't want to to be fined or your car deemed unroadworthy.
-
After a lot of stuffing around I managed to get the rego plate lights out, squeezing in the outside edges of the bulb holders is very difficult to do without the proper tool to do it ( whatever that tool may be :undecided: ) but after trial and error I finally got them out by hooking a 2.5mm Allen key behind one side of the bulb mount push tabs and with a pair of pliers for leverage pull the tab inwards till the mount pops free.
Easier to do now that I know how to get them out but they were an absolute bugger :crazy1:

Handy to know Craig! :drinks:

I forgot to mention that I replaced them with two SCA branded T10 6000k LED's :)

Thanks for the info, Craig. I can see that there are some "tabs" I just didn't want to go fiddling around with it until I knew for sure. I have a bad habit of jumping the gun and breaking things.
Just to clarify, the tabs come inwards? Towards the centre of the cover? And they should just pop out?
I'll use a small flat head screwdriver & some tiny needle nose pliers. That should work I think.
-
Yes the tabs need to pull inwards, I don't think you'll be able to get it with a screw driver as you have to get in behind the tab to make it budge and they are quite firm.
I couldn't get it to move with just an Allen key slipped behind so I had to use pliers for some extra force, you only have to pop one side as well then it will slide out.
-
I was able to use an allen key to pop them out just before. Switched them over & I must say, I am quite pleased with the results!

:goodjob: I can't see the picture though :Pout:
-
argh!! I tried to share it publicly via my dropbox. Try again?
-
Now it's viewable, a little bluer than I'd go for but looks good :goodjob:
-
I'll be honest, I feel the same. I thought Ice Blue would be more on the white side. It's especially noticeable when I reverse at night LOL looks like I have neons :undecided:
Now that I know how to swap them, I might change them again.
On another note, the connector/bulb seems quite similar to a parker. Would that work you think?
-
Yes the park lights are the same T10 fitting, 6000k looks better for parks imo.
I can have my park lights on with the DRL's so the 6000k colour is a match :)
-
I had a look at swapping the parker lights at the same time. But I couldn't get my fat hand in there to pull the bulb out haha.
-
The park bulbs are a very tight fitting till they've been cracked the first time, give em a good twist first to crack them and they'll come out easier.
-
Thank's again for the hot tip!! I have a feeling you'll be helping me out a bit as I slowly mod my car haha

No problem :goodjob2:
