Hi all,
Just curious if anyone here has changed or changes there gearbox oil at specific intervals -20k -30k...
I own a Hyundai i30 CRDI Manual, and im looking into changing the gearbox oil, if anyone can assist please let me know

I changed mine at 30k because I wanted a better oil for smoother/quicker changes :link: PRO GEAR 75W-85 (Full Syn.) | Penrite Oil (http://www.penriteoil.com.au/products/pro-gear-75w-85-full-syn)
I wont have to change it for another 90k now :)

ok, my one is a 2008 model, do you have any idea of how to change it?

I don't know where the fill and drain bolts are on the diesel sorry, I'm sure there will be plenty of members here that do though.

The drain and fill plugs are both 17MM across the head flat bolts, the only ones on the transmission. The common drain bolt is near the bottom of the final drive (diff) casing facing the left hand wheel. The fill bolt from memory is about half way up on the radiator side of the housing.

I changed mine at 130.000km with clutch kit.
Used shell spirax s4 75w90.
This is pure gl4 full synthetic oil and that is what this box need.
Dont use gl5 gl4-gl5 mix or gl5+ oil.

75W-85 for Australian conditions, the Penrite I linked is gl4 full synthetic :)

You cant find good enough 75w85 brand oil in gl4 spec only.
Really cant see difference between 75w85 and 75w90.

For that box you need a really good oil leave penrite for some other vehicle. :mrgreen:
You have a choice of 3 good oil brands all pure gl4 and 75w90 gradation.
Shell spirax s4
Castrol multivehicle
Valvoline max life mtf
Quantity 1.9l.

I priced the Redline oil for my next service and after having been told what it cost decided that Penrite was the way to go. :D (I sound like Dazz now).
My car is booked in for its 180,000 km service next Friday so I will be able to report back on the gear change after that.

Hopefully Hyundai treats you as well as they did me on the gear oil change Dave, when I arrived and was talking/asking the service manager about extra cost for replacing the gearbox oil he said not to worry it only takes a few minutes and can do it free of charge :happydance:

I don't use Hyundai for servicing so it will be interesting to see what I get charged.

so bolt (A) is the filler hole I am guessing the drain hole is also 17mm....

It's reply number 4 here that mentions fill and drain bolts are both 17mm :)

ALWAYS undo the fill plug BEFORE draining the oil from the drain plug.
Draining the oil then discovering you can't remove the fill plug becomes an expensive exercise.
A little bit of warmth in the oil / gearbox helps when undoing the plugs and draining the oil.

yep done that, opened the fill plug first as I didn't want to find myself in bigger trouble, then I opened the drain plug, gearbox was warm so it drained fairy quickly...

So I had my mechanic replace the gearbox oil at its 180,000 kms with Penrite.
My car is now at 183,000 kms.
When I first picked it up I did not notice any difference at all.
But having now covered some 3,000 kms I find that when the gearbox is cold, I would have to say it is if anything a little worse than before. :disapp:
But once warmed up (after only a few kms) it is a lot better. :)
The change from 1st to 2nd is still notchy and I believe this is a geabox design issue and not a gearbox oil issue.
But all other changes are like a knife through hot butter and I am glad I made the change. :)
I am enjoying changing gears and making them as smooth as I can.
