Could have done with a few more 'tart' up pieces to make it worthy of a motor show like Frankfurt, but at least they've made some effort. I wonder what engine is hiding in there? maybe its a 2.2lt 'R' series with 6 speed ?

Maybe it's the 128PS U2.
It doesn't really look very different to me, apart from the wheels?
-
Yeah thats why I was thinking maybe it has something 'special' under the bonnet, like an R series or maybe one of the 120kW (163ps) U2 with twin-turbo from the Sorrento Hybrid here

that looks like it is based on the entry level car... no climate control...
That's odd these days.. at least here in Oz... the sport(y) versions, SR (hatch) and Sport Wagon (CW), are both top enders... and I don't mean the Northern Territory.
Odd because in the "old days", sport(s) meant, everything stripped out... no carpet, no flash seats, no aircon, no power steering, nothing fancy.... BUT, they had a Whiz-Bang (=Kick-Arse after 7pm) engine, AND Whiz-Bang suspension. So it went better and handled better.
Today, it means all the mod cons, PLUS metallic pedals, some pin stripes, and leather seats... or maybe a powered sub woofer (in a sports grade ?? really?). 100% cosmetics.
Yes, I know the market changes, but the intent shouldn't !

I agree Blue it is a bit weird.. all show and no go

The article didnt seem too informative about what this car actually is... I mean look at the other cars Hyundai have on show, this one looks like someone has just driven their daily driver in with some wheels and a sports sticker on the back. It doesnt seem right - why bother? I hope there is something different under the bonnet or its just a waste of floorspace at the show really. I'm sure some more info might appear on the web somewhere but I cant find it just now...

Looks like a stock diesel with the MS kit (like mine,Hemmis and Hippos).
In the European market our i30's are classified as Sport (without the sticker on the boot!)
The writer is all excited about the dual exhausts, maybe he should have looked underneath her :P
