Title: manual gearbox crunching gears.
Post by: 2i30s on September 26, 2009, 01:08:22
I'm booked in to dealers to have my gearbox/clutch looked at next Wednesday.on an up shift from first to second it crunches as if I'm not using the clutch, third back to second not a problem.its done it from new.ii mentioned it to my service manager at 1000ks service and was told it would go away the more kms i did.I've done 6.500ks and some days its really bad and then it wont do it for 2 or 3 days.it might only be a linkage adjustment on the gearbox or shifter linkage.i know there is cables in between the two but there should still be some adjustment there.

That doesn't sound good mate.

I haven't noticed anything like that in ours.

I had a similar problem when I had my Accent.

Cable operated X2 and they need to adjust the tension.
The garage need to know what they are doing otherwise by altering 1 cable it can "adjust" the other.

My advice is when you get it back, take it for a run around the local area and if not right, immediately take it back.

Also, ask them to check gear box oil.
As the weather cools the oil thickens up - know problem- and this can cause problems with gear changing.
Ask if they have been advised of this and to change to a lighter gear oil.

This should help but no guarantees (all done of course under warranty).

That should not happen.
Must be a loose fitting somewhere in the linkage.
Get it seen to pronto.

I'm a happy man  after waiting two and a half hours in the service waiting room,my keys and car where given back to me with, we couldn't find anything wrong  :exclaim:but on the drive home it now changes gear like it did brand new.the gear stick doesn't wobble around when in gear any more,it doesn't crunch gear and for an UN known reason my handbrake has been adjusted :lol:i don't care what they did to fix it I'm just happy it was done at no charge.  thanks 5 year warranty

No matter what they said they will have adjusted the cables.

Good result. See how it goes over the next week.

Mine dose the same. I have to take the car in for another problem so will ask them to look at it.
