Title: Dash cam A piller removal
Post by: john o on July 21, 2016, 18:33:07
Has anyone removed the A pillar trim to install a dash cam?
i have purchase a fuse tap to join into the fuse box and a 12v to 5v mini us b cable /psu. my plan was to run this from the fuse box through the dash up the A pillar, then across the roof lining.
is this possible and has anyone got any descriptions/photos

If you pull the door rubber away from the pillar you'll have room behind there to tuck the cam wire in, if you still need to remove the cover then it simply unclips when you lever it out ( with door rubber removed ) but do it gently and only pull it away just enough to fit the wire as there are connected airbags behind there.

As Craig says just slip things under the rubber is fairly easy... I used a spudger (which was part of my Iphone repair kit) to lift the rubber seals and hide my dash cam cable.
Good luck :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

If ya don't have a spudger (to avoid damaging the paint finish) they're a couple of quid on the interweb :winker: :winker: :winker:

I feed my dashcam from the map light system - an easy solution.

If A pillar os the pillar between ¿windshield? and pilot windows, in 2012 model (GD) there isn't any airbag sensor under A pillar.
If you pull it you will remove it partially, it has a clip that doesn't let you remove completely. I mean the upper side, the bottom side I don't have tried to remove it.
Anyway, you have to be careful to not pull too much
Edit: I can make a short video showing what I mean. if you want it just tell me (better pm to answer quickly)
Edit2: I have a video installing LEDs at bottom (where foot goes) and I had to wire from there to upper light (courtesy light box). Look at my messages and you will find it. The wired is similar, perhaps it is helping.

The mini-video: https://youtu.be/4XP-KKXkm_g
To put again the pillar only press in the opposite side until you hear "click". Then put the rubber.
If you have any question ask me. And if you are not sure, don't do it or be very careful.
I think it is easy..
And remember, it is a i30 GD (model of 2013), I don't know if the i30 FD has any sensor there, the GD doesn't.
Edit: the red-black wire is mine (to foot led) and first time you remove it maybe to be harder.
Sorry for my bad english

If you pull the rubber seal away from the pillar you'll be able to tuck the cable in behind it rather than having it go over and around as shown there.
