Title: Old mechanics remedies

I'll start this off with:

To keep the car windows clear of frost whilst parked, usually overnight:

Cut a spud in half and rub the cut part of the spud on the windows - i.e. smearing the starch onto the glass.

Anyone got any others they wish to share?

what about the NRMA road service guy useing his leather belt to replace crank sharft bearings, road side. they don't do that these day's.
