Title: New i30 revealed
Post by: pidim on September 08, 2016, 01:59:46
Not the most exciting new look (reminds me of a KIA Cerato replacement), but will certainly not offend.

Yeah, the styling is more like the cerato come to think of it. A bit plain.....

Looks OK to me.
Some interesting updates and features.

I think they made a bad mistake with the look of this car....it looks ugly to me, the back looks like a VW Golf / Toyota love child and the front looks like a Mazda 3 / Infinity QX30 cross, and made it squat shorter which makes it look like a BMW 1 series

These cars are all designed to a specific formula efficiency, convenience. It's no wonder they look similar. For me it comes down to price and reliability and I'm very happy with ours. :happydance:

Looks like the Audi hatch (don't know the number) and seems like a backward step in styling, unless that's now the trend.

Mmmm, not sure about that look ( says me after owning a Ford Anglia 105E  many years ago ) :D

Cant say I like it, and that tablet console looks horrible sticking out like that :sicky:

I'd need to see the hatch before I comment on the body styling, never liked wagons.

 :whsaid:

We could rearrange the letters in "Hyundai" and rename it as Hynaudi  :crazy1:

This is way more conservative than the GD was five years ago. Looks like they try to please everyone, and everyone in Europe is buying VW/Audi so the style must be copied to sell them? You could easily change the VW badge into the rear and many wouldn't notice. The side line is more straight, doesn't have curve over front wheel and doesn't rise so heavily up at rear like in GD. Anyway, surely the GD is also dividing opinions whether it's cool or ugly. The shape of front grille surely makes Audi come into mind, and headlights are similar to Kia Ceed.

What I don't like the inside is the center console. The infotainment screen looks like a tablet in a flimsy third party holder, and of course it's a touch screen. At least the heater controls have conventional knobs and buttons, but even there the fan speed is now changed by buttons instead of a knob.

So, for me it's not love at first sight. I may warm up for it over time, or not. Also, we are yet to see how the Wagon/Tourer will look like. I'm surely going to test drive it when it comes available, but don't have any hurry to get rid of my GD.

I hope that small gauge under the tachometer is the water temp gauge. There are nowadays too many cars not having it any more.

Edit: it is the water temp gauge!  :goodjob:

Hmm.. would a temperature scale show ½

EDIT: I see you mean that other gauge. Yeah, that's much better than the barchart on my GD

My first car

My one was the same colour Blue as in Harry Potter. Now the dash on the Anglia 105E is what you call plain. A real streamlined racing car they were

When I was a boy, my dad had company vans when he worked for a company in England called Fullwood back in the sixties.
His company vehicles were Anglia vans and I always remember when he was given a brand new D reg van.
He used to curse it (I learned some new words  :D) because it would never start in cold weather.
At that time we lived in a place called Garstang near Blackpool.

I meant to say 3 door hatch, the 5 door still looks like a wagon to me  The interior is quite nice though I'm not too impressed with the infotainment design or the steering wheel, it'll grow on me I suppose :)

A hot little 3dr N series could entice me, they probably wont be released here though if they build one :undecided:

The interior looks quality, I'm impressed (not sure about that steering wheel though).

I am nonplussed with the exterior design. The rear looks like a Golf,  the bonnet looks longer and reminds me of current generation Mazdas and there is a hint of Audi A1 in there somewhere. It should do well in Europe.

I really like the headlights and grille a lot better than on my GD. I like the layout of the instrument cluster too. The silver on the bottom of the steering wheel looks really ugly, otherwise the interior is a step up.

I hope they have put some more sound proofing into it and that the LED headlights illuminate better than the halogens on the GD. No need to rush for a test drive, I probably won't be contemplating trading mine in for another two years.

I very much like the new design, both in and out. The current GD is too "wedge-shaped" for my liking. I don't like that the windowline ends so high on the rear doors. The new (will it be called HD) is more conservative designed, which suits me fine  :P

I like that they have gone back to analogue tank and temp gauges. Not fond of the floating screen on the dash, but seems like you can't put a new car on the market without these days.

Better sound proofing and better steering also a wish from me.

Where is it mentioned they'll be using LED headlights  the only new small car that I know of to be coming with the new LED's is the Holden Astra which I think is vastly superior in design to the new i30 imo, especially the interior, just by putting the head unit back where it should be makes all the difference.

Agree, CraigB.

It just looks so much more upmarket when the screen is build into the dash as in the Opel.

The floating screen in the new i30, and other brands, looks like they forgot it should be there, and just thought; what the heck, we'll just put it here in the middle of the dash...  :disapp:

The pictures we have seen so far are from the top model with all bells and whistles. I read somewhere that base models without navi will have smaller 5" screen, but haven't seen yet how it will look like.

Where is it mentioned they'll be using LED headlights

However, that's the top model, and I'd guess the base models will have traditional H7 halogens.

It says it will have LEDs in the article linked in the first post too, nothing on which equipment models might have them though.

Interesting to see differences emerging in the suspension for different territories:

Quote
Cars for the European market will all be made in a factory in the Czech Republic and all will come with a modern independent rear suspension design.

Cars destined for Australia will be shipped, as before, from Korea. Hyundai Australia says the most basic model of the new i30 will come with a simple and cheap twist-beam semiindependent rear suspension.

The European-developed alternative will only go into the more costly versions.

I'm wondering what will be the designation after FD and GD? HD would mean high resolution videos, ID is like an identity card, so will they jump to JD?
