Title: The Grand Tour
Post by: AlanHo on November 18, 2016, 14:56:02
I have just watched the first programme of the Grand Tour with Clarkson, May and Hammond.

Wow - it was most entertaining - fast cars and loadsa money being spent.

It has put into the shade the BBC's pathetic attempt to keep Top Gear going.

However - if you were not a fan of the 3 when they were in top gear - you are going to hate this new programme because everything about it is bigger, brasher, bolder and breathtaking.

I was never a huge fan of Top Gear and hated the version with Chris Evans in charge - but Grand Tour looks very promising.

I preferred the pre-2000 Top Gear which was actually a motoring programme. The Clarkson show was a 'lads' entertainment show which incidentally featured cars. Never too keen on it, reviews of supercars, the scripted adventures and some silly stuff. Though I somehow kept on watching the thing, skipping through the boring bits.

The Grand Tour seems to get fairly good reviews, though the reviewers may be gauging it on what the expectations of the old audience are.

I'll be watching it later this evening.

Yep it was infectious. And you lived in hope that the clever,  pompous git , Clarkson, would suffer some misery.  :)

Alan's prediction was spot on, in so far as, I was not a big fan previously and am not overly impressed with this new offering.

Yes they have certainly lashed out loads of money on it but the very reason for spending such vast amounts of money is to pull people into their PRIME service and then rely heavily on the inertia factor to keep them.

I am on the points of sacking PRIME not because of this program just because the free delivery service is far from free and seldom next day anymore.

Do you need Netflix or something to watch that in Australia? Was never a big fan of Top Gear (preferred 5th gear)

Not a big fan of contrived shows...

Watch bits of it occasionally like the celebrity in a reasonably priced car, but never went looking for it.  :undecided:

A few months ago Clarkson was in trouble with his neighbours because he decided to demolish his house and construct a new one. he finished up settling the argument by getting demolition contractors ro blow it up with explosives.

Hence when he told May and Hammond in the programme they could demolish his house if he lost a certain bet - the scene had already been set.

Despite the reservations we all have about whether this is a car programme or just a day out with the yobbish lads - this programme if they maintain this standard is going to be hugely popular with a certain section of so-called petrol heads.

I will maintain my Amazon Prime membership - it includes access to the Kindle book library and the free delivery of goods is a no-brainer with what my wife and I spend on goods over the year.

The "NSW staysafe committee" sounds like the normal sort of group you find South of Queensland. It is a 'Joint Standing Committee'  :crazy2:
Presumably they stand around holding hands and watch the traffic go past. :snigger:

I just finished watching it and it was ok.
It felt just like watching a Top Gear episode.
I wasn't a fan of their new driver making "funny" remarks as he drove their new track and some of the skits were a tad cringey but all in all I will watch the rest mostly due to them being available on the slightly less than legal streaming sites almost immediately after they have aired.

One single car exlpored in depth. One. And an Aston Martin Vulcan at that

WTF was all that commando shit about? Half the show taken up by ridiculous SAS style manoeuvres  :crazy1: :censored: :censored:
