Hi all, hope I am posting this in the right place..
My wife's car is a 2010 i30 diesel CW estate.
The right dipped beam has stopped working. Left dipped beam is working and all parking lights and high beams are working.
I tried two replacement H7 bulbs, no joy.
So I tried a multimeter across the connection block for the bulb and got no power. The connector block from the loom is clean, no corrosion and is fully pushed in so no idea what to check next. Any ideas?

No, I didn't check fuses cos I assumed the one fuse would serve both dipped beams and one is working, is that not the case?

Hmm, just checked. You're right. It's the tail lights that have a fuse for each side... forget my rubbish advice.. :mrgreen:

You are actually right. I found a fuse blown in the fuse box under the bonnet beside the battery. I replaced the fuse, it didn't blow again but the dipped beam is still not working

Welcome mate,
You found a burnt fuse. That is probably your best clue. They blow for a reason! Which one was it?
On FD models, go to fuse/relay box next to battery. fuses 16 & 17 are Left & Right low beam, fuse 18 is common high beam.
If no luck with fuse changes, meter the relevant fuse for 12v (both sides.)
If you have 12v but no headlight, remove fuse and measure for continuity from cold side of fuse ( =0 volts) to the bulb connector.
If you get an open circuit reading, the break will be in the loom.
You may also have, or have had in the past, a wire shorted. Therefore, the fuse blows, but the short may have damaged the wire or a connector.
Its a fairly simple circuit, so good luck. :)

It's 2am in Dublin, quite a few beers have been taken. More investigations tomorrow, I will report back.

Hi all. Sorry for the delay replying. I am trying to figure out how to attach a photo.
So behind each headlight I found a strange addition. I can only guess these are to increase resistance to prevent headlights from blowing?
I have removed them and lights are working fine....

Sounds like you may have had an earthing mod done to reduce the incidence of blown globes (but it wasn't done correctly?)

They both looked like the one on the left, the one on the right is when I removed the outer tubing which was wrapped in insulation tape

Hi,
Dazz is correct, the mod ( the yellow wire) has enough impedance to reduce any high voltage ' spikes'.
I cant see whether it is on the hot or earth side, but we can assume that a soldered joint has failed.
Hopefully with good quality bulbs fitted, you will not have the failures that the previous owner was trying to over come.
