Hi all,
Finally recovered from the trauma of my local dealership trying charge me $200 for a cabin filter.
I started looking through all the services schedules and online and notice that no mention is ever made on replacing coolant. Really?
All my booklets and online info on Hyundai websites etc only ever refer to "inspect" cooling system and check coolant level.
Having just completed my 5yr service, I was curious to see when this was needed.
So is true that this is never changed on any service? Mine is the green coloured coolant.
-
Usually green is changed every 2 or 3 years. Red one is advertised as a "long life" coolant which should be changed every 5 years.
Based on my experience when I bought my car it was 5 years old and I am pretty sure coolant was never changed. Have done the job personally after that every 2 years. I use the green stuff also.

thanks for your reply. I wonder why this is never mentioned in the service schedule, however? I cannot find a reference to anything relating to a change of coolant after a certain number of kms/years.
Does this mean that a mechanic/dealer would never change the coolant since it does not appear anywhere? The only mention is "inspect coolant". What does this mean? If itis full, just forget about it?

There are products out there to test condition. What the dealer does you'd have to ask.
Myself personally I look after my own vehicles so not a problem. I change it according to the life expectancy of the product. Some longlife coolants can be 5 - 7 years.
Not sure what I'll do with my diesels though because so far i don't believe they have engine block drain plugs.

I could be dead by then. What ever happened to converting things to their simplest terms?
14 years, are you serious? Where is that data coming from?

HMCA servicing schedule.
:wtf: speechless

The way i see it, they don't just pull numbers out of thin air. If thats what they put as the schedule then i trust thats how long it will last.
Excluding the "under extreme conditions" of course.

So basically, you never have to change it :)

Yeah, I'm on the cynical side of the table. The same people that decide that also decide most auto transmissions are filled for life or also get changed once in a blue moon.
that's the problem though, extreme conditions. If you read through the description I reckon most driving in the cities would be extreme.
anyway, I can please myself and do it whenever I like. I don't think I could go more than 5 years.
Nice Avatar upgrade. Is that what you do in your spare time? What vehicle is it?

This won't simplify things but interesting the varied opinions and reported data found by owners, predominately FD , GD in this mix too
There is mention rustynutz , MY2012 of 10 year 210 000 and then every 2 years 30 000k
This is online, but after this I found no further coolant replacement right up to 510 000k.
