Title: Flat Battery - left interior light on
Post by: dammit on April 11, 2017, 04:33:56
My i30 has a dead battery, I left the interior light in the ON position now it won't start.

Will it suffice to get it jump started and go for a bit of a drive, or do I need to get a battery charger onto it to charge it right up? Car is a 2012 model and never had a problem with the battery till now.

On a side note, is there anything I can do to stop this issue in future...shouldn't the interior light cut off after an hour or something rather than running the battery dead? The interior electrics work when I turn the car on, but when I crank it, it just clicks and does not start.

Should be fine to jump it and take for a good drive.

Next time remember to turn the light off :p

Foolish mistake - wish it turned itself off automatically! Whoops...

NRMA came (thanks Hyundai for the complomentary roadside assistance) and said after 4.5 years battery is still in pretty good nick. Guess I'll just take it for a drive then hope for the best.

On my FD there's two settings. One let's the lights turn off automatically, the other keeps them on.

I've twice left them on overnight. Once for 16 hours.  :scared:
Started without a problem both times.  :goodjob:

Mine decided to throw a cell in the battery just as I was going to pick him up.
$209 later back on the road  :crazy1:

Funny thing was the nrma guy put the meter on the battery and asked me 3 times how long had the light been on- I said since Sunday night so 36 hours, he couldn't believe it. Must have barely flattened it.

I left the interior light on for 8 days. in the airport parking lot  :crazy1:
the parking lot have a jump start service, no issues since.
my 2005 Citroen C4 turned everything off if the battery was below certain voltage.
I am amazed that the I30 don't have this.
I have the base version, maybe on the high level it got something.
