Title: Squeak...!!
Post by: reecho on December 02, 2009, 09:50:59
My CRDi has developed a squeak.

Around 1500rpm while moving it can start but it varies. I had thought initally it was the drive belt but the AC doesnt change the tone or the volume of it. More a body panel squeak if anything or maybe engine mountish......feck i don't know.

Change in revs makes it vary though.

It sounds like it is directly behind the cluster, but winding the window down it is plainly obvious that it is under the bonnet somewhere.

Bound to be a bugger to find being so unpredictable...

Anybody had something similar....?

I believe it is a combination of the bonnet bump stops set too low and the insulative blocks/trim in the top corners of the engine bay squeaking on the underside of the bonnet.

It squeaked when i pulled off the road for a coffee this morning and i held the revs to make the noise.....pop the bonnet and it disappeared..........YES...!!

Hi reecho,
i'd like to know if you finally managed to get rid of that squeak. I have a problem too with that @#* bump stops but no matter how i set them, i still get a creepy clank from the bonnet when running over minor but bluffy potholes.

Yours is a "squeak". Mine is a "clank". Hmmm...
Mine is made by Czechs so i suppose yours is made by Koreans. There must be a difference

Ok sit rep on the squeak...

Hmm I feel a bit stupid now if what i did today was the issue.

My windscreen was replaced at 2500kms, and it appears that one of the plastic drip seals down the side of the "A" pillar was not clipped in on the driver's side completely. It makes perfect sense with the noise i was hearing. Feck i should of thought about this.

Only noticed this as i was knocking things in the front.

Cross fingers again but the longish drive today was a good sign... :D

Yeah, It must get lost in the translation.  I thought "Squeak" was Czech for "Clunk" in Korean, not "Clank"!!
