Title: Colour coding the black centres in the PD SR Alloys/ Black vinyl roof
Post by: Dazzler on July 21, 2017, 04:16:37
Like most people I like to personalise my new cars just a little.

I'm not really into performance mods due to potential insurance and warranty issues. Although,  I will probably replace the air filter with a K & N one before the 10k service.

But, I'm quite tempted to..

A) Get my roof vinyl rapped with a gloss black vinyl. I didn't want or need a sunroof but like the look of the black roof. Thinking it shouldn't cost more than about $250

B) Considering colour coding my wheel centres in fiery red. I think I could do this myself and would clear coat it for longevity.

Thoughts...

I already know Craigb is not keen and me thinks SWMBO (Trish) would probably also be negative about the wheel idea too..

I will probably do a mock up of the wheel idea with photoshop and post the pictures on here when I get home to my PC.

Could Steve or a moderator add a poll to this thread if they get a chance as I'm not sure how to do it on tapatalk.

Cheers,

Dazz!

Why not try some plasti dip on the wheel centres.  It can always be removed if you don't like it.  If it's a hit, then prime, paint and clear coat later.

Noooooooo :crazy1: :D

Dazz, If you're going to black wrap the roof even more reason to leave the centre caps black which will accentuate the black highlighted roof.

No harm in doing a mock up with photo shop though, cheaper than a $30 can of Plasti Dip.

Kamini probably knows of a photo app for your phone which will do what you're wanting, I'll ask her once she's back from work.

Black roof -  Black centres.
Red roof -Red centres.

Don't forget the number plates,
Red background &  Black letters.
Saw a set like that the other evening,  the black went to white when headlights hit it.  😮

Craig,
I think some of your "silver & black " rubbed off onto Dazz ,

Hopefully more the black :Good_luck: adding more colour to a vehicle that's already such a strong colour is going to look to much imo but Dazz is a big boy and has to make his own decisions :D

Thanks for the feedback so far. Probably a good point about keeping the black on the wheels with a black roof, but if nobody beats we to it I will do the photoshop thing when I get home. Platidip was a good idea too Bob.

There's the question of how much colour in your coding, Dazz. I don't think it's black and white. (See what I did there?)

Red pinstriping around the hub may be much nicer than a full red fill.

Food for thought thanks Gonz.  :goodjob:

One of the fiery red votes was mine just to get the results...  :snigger:

Did a quick photoshop (But I'm no expert at that stuff) Doesn't look too bad, but leaning towards doing black vinyl roof and leaving them black to match now.

Here's a thought: get the wheels off and spray the brake calipers red! :P

Those pic's confirm what I already knew Dazz, I'd still leave em black even if not doing the roof.

I don't think that mods can edit a post by Admin so no-can-do with your poll..

After seeing the centres in red , I now agree with Craig  Dazz.
They are one ugly centre, would make them stand out worse than dogs balls as they say.

It's not hard, at the top of the topic is a black tab "Add Poll" :)

Trish doesn't like the sound of the blacked roof  ( I said it won't make any sound) :whistler:

Better to just do it if you want Dazz and don't mention it to Trish, and she probably wouldn't notice it was done :D

Some of the boys on here are just tooo conservative!

I think I'll end up getting the gloss black vinyl on the roof. Do you like that look Scott?

Black vinyl and black inserts work, red may be a touch ostentatious Dazzler but I do miss the coloured V inserts. Was just looking at my marina blue SR and wondering if it would work, hell I'm all about being Flamboyant, not :whistler:

I honestly can't see why you would want to put black on your roof.
A red car has awesome presence, why water it down?

IMHO.
