Years ago while my wife and I was visiting my father in law he sent his young son out to top up the radiator on his Mini. After a while I realized he had been a long while just to top up the rad, I went out to see him pouring heaps of water into the engine. He said to me " I thought the rad was taking a lot of water " :Shocked:

There seems to be a Mini theme happening here. What was the end result of that one? :crazy1:
My first wife put turps in one of our two stroke mowers instead of a petrol mix many years ago! The can was a 5 litre mobil can but it had turps written on the side and turps looks and smells a lot different to regular fuel (before the days of unleaded)
It was so long ago I can't remember fixing it, but knowing me I wouldn't have paid someone else or bought a new mower, so must have drained it and refilled it somehow. :head_butt:

@ Dazz, I removed the sump plug straight away and let it drain overnight, got about 11 ltrs of water and oil out of the engine. Filled the engine with oil and ran it for about 5 minutes with no load on it and then drained it again. Refilled again and the father in law used it locally for a week. One more engine oil change and then kept a check on the colour of the oil for a few weeks. Fortunately no damage. I am please I was visiting at the time otherwise the father in law who has no idea of mechanics or maintenance would have driven it until it went bang. To give you an idea of his capabilities I went to see him one day and he was in the garage Swearing and cursing trying to weld up a broken metal bike rack. I said whats wrong pop, he said " bloody welder I bought is useless " it was a soldering iron. :lol:

Not any more mickd, long gone & sadly missed. Apart from those faults he was a good bloke treated me better than my own dad & a good driver ( long distance truck driver ) :goodjob2:

Yes, have not seen him for years so Mick is probably right :goodjob2: Hopefully the B.I.L has learnt what hole to pour water into by now. :lol:
