Quite happy! And it drives well in the snow (Bridgestone Blizzak WS60). But up here we only get the 2.0L gasoline (euh... petrol for the rest of you) engine.

The car already has over 8300k on it. It's the 2009 GL w/Sport package (i.e., has everything except ESP, surprisingly enough).

I'll get a picture of the rear of the car and post it later so you can see what the Elantra Touring badge looks like (I like it!)

I have a son and daughter-in-law and grandson in Mississauga. (Yeah I know. It's a big country.)
We've spent a a couple of pleasant trips there in the last few years and will be back again in (probably) October 2010.

Thought that might be the case from your name.
I've been to Montreal a couple of times but haven't made it to Ottawa yet. Also want to see the east coast esp Nova Scotia.

When I went to school (almost 40 years ago) we learnt a lot about Canada (Part of the Commonwealth and all) but doesn't get a lot of mentions in Aus these days..

Would be interested to see some photos and info in our random pix section if you are that way inclined...

From what I know it is a lovely place but very different from Aus in climate and Scenery...

Just have a look at the records set for my weather station at home (http://www.vasseur.ca/meteo/record.htm (http://www.vasseur.ca/meteo/record.htm)) and you'll find that this past year alone (the station's only been up a year) the temperature varied from 34.6°C to -32.8°C (that's not a mistake, that's MINUS 32.8°C). And just last week the province of Alberta has seen temps of -43°C.

Combine the above with the fact that we have a "to the tar" snow removal policy which involves copious amounts of road salt used each winter, and you have the worst possible conditions to own anything made of iron.

I have rustproofed the car, so I expect it to last as long as my last car, a 1996 Saturn SL2 w/231103km on the odometer when I handed it to the Hyundai dealership in September.

I think we share pretty much similar driving conditions, as I am also living next to the North Pole (Finland).

I'm pretty okay with the crisp temperatures (currently -16°C) but I do hate spreading salt on the roads - it literally destroys the car body in few years, rust proofing helps a bit. I think the amount of salt used here is somewhere around 50kg per one meter of road every winter. Salt is used mostly here in southern part of country, as it does not melt down the ice below -5°C temperatures but only makes road more slippery. Personally, would like to stop salting the roads and accept the fact that road may be slippery at +-0°C.

Do they allow studs for winter tires in Canada? We can have studs and I think it is the only way to get decent grip of the icy roads in southern Finland. Up north they can surely survive without studs.

Some provinces do, and some don't. In Québec, we're allowed to have studs on our winter tires, and winter tires are mandatory between Dec. 15 and March 15. Some other provinces don't even require winter tires, as in Ontario just across the river. Not surprising they had a 60 car pileup 2 days ago when we had freezing fog.

They do that for 2 reasons, i think:

1. Don't call any car a wagon, since the manufacturers consider the term "detrimental to the North American market" :rolleyes:
2. Hyundai wants to capitalize on the excellent reliability of the Elantra.
