10.40 Pm in Devonport Tas and its nearly 17c here had another pleasant day with low to mid 20's. Could do with some rain in our tanks... :D
I remember when I was in Eastbourne UK, the only thing I could see was old people in their scooters or whatever it's called

You picked a fine town to visit  Eastbourne is where folk retire to
I'd like some rain, and you won't often here that from a brit.
14 hours of light-ish snow and still falling.

I see
But few years later I was in Broadstairs in Kent, and same situation there, lots and lots of old people.
Maybe all the old people retire to southern UK.
Very cold wind chill makes it feel colder but I have the heating running at full tilt, so it's like a sauna in my house.
Thats nice, I think I could live in Tasmania, one question: Is Tasmania a cool place? or is it just a place where old people live?

 Are you calling me old!
No we have some nice young ones too
Some young ones like my daughter Ashley leave the state and go to the mainland but most come back eventually because our climate is more pleasant and people are generally more pleasant (friendly and open) here - no offence to mainlanders.

I know it is all relative but +3 (warm) :D That's a classic....
Yeah that is common in the cities, the problem is that the nightclubs tend to lose your jacket if you put one in to the locker room, so it is easier and cheaper just not to wear one
With regards to the cold and Brits "whining" about it lets be fair, Scotland reached -21C regularly at the beginning of the year, for us who normally sit in the Gulf Stream, that is cold.
So, to me it is easy to believe that -21°C in Scotland must have been freezing. Add some wind to it and people daring to go outside will turn to icy statues.
I am currently watching a programme on Channel 4 about why we have had this weather and the presenter is in Scotland's Cairngorm Mountains. This area regularly gets -20C and lower but is usually accompanied by up to 100mph winds and according to the programme the windchill with those numbers is equivalent to -70C.
Looks like Scotland!!
Does not look like Iceland, To many trees and to much snow (https://www.i30ownersclub.com/forum/Smileys/default/lol.gif)

I'm lucky to live in the warmer part of the country, some had it drop down to -41.3°C last night.
Expecting a snowstorm to arrive for the night.

Volcanologists from the Icelandic Meteorological Office are relieved that today’s long-awaited eruption appears to be relatively gentle and did not cause flooding by melting glacier ice. However, they fear it could trigger a much more severe eruption at the nearby Katla volcano, which has a fearsome reputation for destruction.
What a glow.

I was driving back home from Uni, had the radio ON. The RJ said the weather in Darwin atm is a bit 'chilly' at 27C   . The only reason it was that low was because it had just rained.
If 27C is chilly then 15C is freezing :)

Winter is still on us, although snowbanks have gone down about 6 inches. Spring arrives few weeks later than usual - need to wait bit longer before switching to the summer tires .
We've had nearly an inch of rain (more than 20mm) today but it is still not that cold about 16c at the moment (10.45pm)

From North to South 3000 Km.
From East to West 4000 Km.

Yes a big piece of land for sure, but most of it is basically inhabitable - too dry, too hot etc.
over 90% of the population (don't quote me on that) live right on the very edge of the coast, and more so on the eastern coast.
Aussies also have an obsession with living on coastal areas - any land along a coastal strip is becoming too expensive for the average jo-blo.
But having said that most of us would live within 30-40mins drive from the coast anyway.

Tests are being carried out on the remains of short-tailed shearwater or mutton birds found dead on Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay islands beaches.
The birds were on their annual non-stop migration of up to 32,000kms from northern Russia to rookeries in Victoria and South Australia.

LaLaLa were not listening
Didn't fall off, but some person who had fogotten to scrape their windcreen tried to squish me. I politely reminded her she should defrost her car before moving off. I did this mostly by using a special hand signal, and politely shouting profanities.
.........I need a coffee  :D
We don't know how lucky we are over here

A crisp November morning in South-Western Finland, the sun rose at 9:01 am. Temperature is -16°C and ground is covered with 4-5 inches of powder snow.
Has been snowing constantly since 10.30am and we now have thunder and lightning with it!
lalala were not listening :D
Still snowing up here, took an hour to clear the drive and another hour to drive the 3 miles to work.
Where I live there is no snow but is all around.
cloudy cloudy cloudy
all i can say is it better not bloody rain tomorrow while i'm driving my car back from the detailers
Hey Babis,
There was an item on the news here tonight that you are having a heat wave in Greece. It even showed people walking around in their bathers and swimming. Is it really that hot, or is it just an Indian Summer?
i wanted to take some new piccys of her while she looks all shiny and sparkly, not in the pouring bloody rain and then get splashed all over driving home *cries*
I will get some pix of the amazing icicles coming from our gutters later for you
-12c here.
Pipes are frozen in the office today, having to boil snow to make coffee
LOL!!! serious? it cant be that cold!
LOL!!! serious? it cant be that cold!

detailer has agreed to let me leave her there tonight, as its absolutely bucketing down.

Rain today, light drizzle,

I guess he means the melting icicles falling off the roof towards unsuspecting heads. :scared:
As promised :goodjob:

If this roof were in Finland, I would say it has a serious heat leakage. I do not know about Scotland, but in southern Finland our roofs have 40 cm (16") thermal insulation as standard. We get icicles usually spring-time when the sun starts melting the snow on our roofs.
expecting -8 overnight
I am just home from dancing and it's a positively balmy -5C up here,

I actually preferred the -5 to -10 weather last week with northern vind direction, it was beautiful, no rain and no clouds and I could stargaze every night

We had some really heavy rain and hail today Bureau say only 11 or 12mm but more like an inch in the city centre in just a few hours .. drains overflowed and quite a few shops flooded (probably about half our shops closed including K-mart and a Big Supermarket as well (Didn't even make the local news)

Heavy rain Daz ... your so lucky :) I wish I could have gone there as a 10 pound pome almost 36 year ago now .. what beautiful country side you have, I had to give up my gun because of a mad or bad Tassie !! :) ... We just look at the TV or books to remind us what rain looks like now and to know a lawn is suppose to be green not brown
Cheers :goodjob:
As much as my aging bones needs the heat to move and all work together ... I'd love to look out the window and see an endless stream of perfect white snow and the quiet calmness that brings the tranquility of it all ... I do so envy you guys and especially now that Santa is on his way
You are all so lucky back there :sweating: all I have to see as I try to shield my skinhead noggin from that warmth of our yellowy/orange god in the sky as I walk around Huh is strong toned young (over 18!) female bodies just soaking that sun up and rubbing in (safety factor 90+) to their bronzed bodies and some are so brassen  they don't even wear a top to their tiny bikinis  I just look away :-[ and think of the lovely snow photo's ...... You guys are so lucky ......
?Heavy snow here at the moment. looking forward to my early morning ESP session.
Pictures say it all so much better than text

Is it snowing there? It's been snowing here on and off for 36 hours now. I couldn't see my i30 in the carpark earlier.
There would be a lot of us here that would love a nice open log fire while leaning on the mantle shelf with a nice cold pint of larger in your hand ... looking out the window over the snow covered land :D.
Nose like a red berry.
Even we think it's starting to get a bit chilly now....
should be full now... its been raining all day!!!!Only about 19 mm till 5PM here.
We ave a fairly big roof on our house and I worked out that every mm of rain gives us approx 250 litres of water in our tanks.. We have 2 x 10,000 gallon tanks (90,000 litres) and no council supply...
With the amount of rain we have had lately they are staying full no matter how much we use
Proper blizzard conditions here, has been for a while. Look out Shambles and eye30 it's heading towards you for sometime later :scared:

At the moment I could fill that in about 15 minutes....with my shovel.
We have town water but are just trying to avoid using it for the gardens and car washing. This is under the eaves, slimline. Will get another one if we feel the need. But my calculations on useage and average rainfall say we should be OK.
I'm monitoring the rain guauge and the tank so I'll know in the next day or two how much it takes to fill.

Is it just me or are those tanks ugly? They look like something from a petrochemical plant....No offensed intended, Trev... :-\

pretty ugly. seen worse though.
i hope i can put one underground at some point. but hey i won't really have to see it, only the road traffic will.
nothing wrong with it...
at least its an EGR tank, it should last a long time!!!
When empty can they be moved easy so as to free up space?
It wasn't so long ago that you weren't allowed to install a water tank if you lived in town....How times have changed....
Trev, will you use it for drinking at all?
Hey Trev, when I said drinking, I meant as in maybe filling a jug to keep in the fridge...that sort of thing... :D It will probably be nicer than the town water with all it's added chemicals....
its better to drink town water... it has flouride in it! helps stop you haveing 'bogan teef' i.e all black and rotten...
weak sauce... if i can drink the tap water in zimbabwe, not get sick, or have any problems from it, im 100% sure the tap water here is quite fine!!
A wet Christmas morning....
People everywhere are getting very tired of the non stop wet weather..
Temp is ok at 20deg but the humidity is 92% and the forecast is no better..oh well we will enjoy it just the same! :D
with kids waiting for Santa....
I guess everyone's tastes are different.
We chose the slimline because it fits in nicely beside the house at the back and reckon it looks OK.
but as for the question about drinking captured rain water its not advised depending on where you live. e.g in my area there is a lot of coal dust that settles on the roof, so that collects with the rain water. the town water is actually cleaner.
with kids waiting for Santa....
Don't you mean Samta?
Sorry - just spotted your sig
Great comeback Nic
+2C and snow is melting
Now will we have FLOOD Alerts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
went out for a BBQ today and froze my you know wats off, 16c and very windy. :scared:
About 2C, thawing nicely now, I just removed an 8 inch thick 3 foot by 2 foot lump of ice off the plinths above mine and my neighbours doorways, they didn't half make a thump when they hit the deck and fractured......sure I spotted some ships in the harbour making hasty detours at the time :winker: :winker:
Has been hot and extremely humid around 36C the past few days ..... bloody awful :faint:

Hope all of our members and their families and Friends are OK with the very bad floods. i noticed on the news tonight that Brisbane was going to flood big time. Ian,agentr31 is only 10 minutes from there.
I'll give him a text on his mobile. :scared:
he said he's OK. but he also mentioned his mum is stuck at her work. :eek:i just spoke to him again,he hasn't been flooded. :goodjob:
he mentioned he has no internet coverage,he cant get onto the club.he said he's OK. but he also mentioned his mum is stuck at her work. :eek:i just spoke to him again,he hasn't been flooded. :goodjob:
I see there's serious rain in Tassie (sorry - Dazzie) now.
Are you OK Daz?
dazz manor, is on the side of a hill,he'll be OK.
Thanks for your concern.. Hopefully we have seen the worst of it.. :goodjob:for now. :scared:
Thanks for your concern.. Hopefully we have seen the worst of it.. :goodjob:for now. :scared:
I've had rain on and off for 4 days, flash flooding all around my neighbourhood. the servo down on the highway is closed due to it being flooded. :scared: :o
I'm real glad most people are okay now ... the weather here is dry and 30C tomorrow and then goes to the high 30s for a while . We live by the water and the tide level is up by a metre to what is normal for this time of the year .they should be named and shamed publicly on the TV.
We have had awful (deliberately lit) bush fires here not far away from us in which at least 5 homes and properties were lost.
I noticed on the news today that 10 people have been arrested charged with looting in Queensland ................ :faint:
Check out the size of this cyclone bearing down on the Queensland coast.
:scared:
Is it expected to hit Queensland coast? I hope not...
Nasa has released this stunning pic..... :scared:
I think they mean the eye of the Cyclone is about the size of Tasmania.. They are predicting winds of 250 kph (or more) with an eye around 200kms across that would do a lot of damage :scared: :sweating:Unfortunately I don't think that will happen. It's sort of like an ocean liner - running in almost a dead straight line from way out near Fiji, it'd take a lot of force to make it change direction substantially. Most likely to cross the coast and keep heading west, downgrading as it goes but still at cat 1 level by the time it gets to Alice Springs.
Got everything crossed it will change direction and the coast will be spared
the cyclone is north of me but we have a couple other members up in Nth Qld, Kimba and ummm Alan is it?
i think they might be in the path?
i hope they're going to be ok.
so scary looking
That's easy to say when we're sitting back in our armchairs....
Where were people suppose to evacuate to?
I hope it doesn't get worst :'(it rains, stops, rains and then stops. each time the water go's down a bit only to come up again.
I saw a brief note that the Indigenous All Stars AFL game had been cancelled but they didn't say why But I guess I know now. Edit: Just discovered this was supposed to be in Alice Springs. :-[I hope it doesn't get worst :'(it rains, stops, rains and then stops. each time the water go's down a bit only to come up again.
:'( That sounds bad Steve I hope it abates soon...never been so worried in my life dazz. my eldest son stood in the middle of the road when it first flooded. and he was waist deep. :scared:
thanks Trev,i go outside every half hour to see if its getting any closer to me. flash flood my ass,i don't think its to flash,or my poor neighbours. :'( :'( I'm not sure where that afl game was going to be played Trev.
thanks Russ,my garage is 2 Mt's lower than my house floor. if the water gets any closer I'm moving my cars to higher ground. are you getting much rain?
but the wife and kids need to be near civilization and not 5 hours drive from a town like me. :scared:
Glad you are ok Steve. :sweating:.yes we have mate.
Next I better go and see if we have any members in Egypt :o
