Title: Autolink privacy
Post by: burner on March 04, 2018, 09:58:01
Does anyone else feel any invasion of privacy with regard to information being collected by the app and the computer link?

Sorry if this has been discussed before.

Is there a Eula which states what data is collected? I wouldn't expect it to be anything personal that was collected...no more than what your phone and computers are already giving up to the data munchers :)

Hi Burner,

I've had a lot of trouble getting it to work consistently, so they are getting very little data out of me.  :snigger:

There are options you can tick to reduce the amount of tracking it does. From memory you can turn off the location tracking and a couple of other things.  :goodjob:

So theres location, top speed , hard acceleration, hard braking, since when does anyone need to know my driving habits?
I realise I can turn it off (i have) but I was shocked to know all this information was collected .
Do they share it with police after an accident or do police just seize your car's computer and download it all?
Of course I have nothing much to hide and if some maniac wiped out my family I would want proof of his speeding available.
I must be living in a hole as I've been told the technology isnt new?

I believe a lot of this info is stored in the cars ECU anyway and can be extracted in the event of an investigation.

I read awhile ago that here in uk the police could, if they got the necessary warrant, extract data from ecu.

Not sure if this has been tested in the courts.

how does one "turn it off" or minimise what is collected ?

If it makes any difference I do not have the app on my phone.

I don't think it can communicate with their server unless you have the app installed on your phone and register with Hyundai via the App. The settings to select what is recorded are somewhere in the app.
