We use an old basic Garmin GPS when we travel on the mainland in a rental car. It does have lifetime map updates but only cost around $76 a few years ago so it is pretty basic.
If it dies I'll probably replace it with one of these. Be nice to have a dashcam as well while travelling on the mainland. I know it's probably not the first combo, but it is a pretty good price too.

Bugger! maybe there is a reason it is "good value"

You’ve got a good phone with maps built in Dazz, what’s wrong with using that :undecided:

Oh yes, I forgot that! LOL
But I liked the idea of a combo with camera.

Unfortunately the cams in navigation devices are always poor quality, they’re a make do option but better to use seperate devices.

Yes, I occasionally would pack my GPS for hire cars on work trips but not any more.
I just take my spare simless Android phone with the free :link: MAPS.ME (MapsWithMe), detailed offline maps of the world for iPhone, iPad, Android (https://maps.me/) installed. It works like a champ, doing everything a GPS does.
It then doubles as my web and comms device on the hotel's free Wi-Fi. :victory:
