I got my i30 2 weeks ago and i am looking for some good car seat covers. Do you guys know of any online US store that sell good car seat covers for the i30.
-
Just be careful what you buy otherwise you may hinder the deployment of the seat air bags
-
I am looking myself and was a little surprised at how much sheepskin covers cost.
Start at $300 a pair for less than 100% sheepskin through to $700 a pair for 100%.
Starting to think I will do without as I quite like the seats the way they are. Scotchgarding should take care of the odd spill etc?
Cheers

Look out for specials at supercheap and autobarn..Hopefully you can get something reasonable for under 200...
I have had bad experiences with Scotchguarding...

Do they shed much ?? I don't mind if they aren't pure sheepskin as long as they do the job and Idon't lose the feel of the seat mould.

Mine have been good..Little or no sheding... They were sheepskin fronts with acrylic backs because of the airbags in the seats I unstitched the backs and just use the facings with elastic straps ... But you might be able to pick up some with openings in the right place for the bags...
Oh.. and that bluey grey colour they come in matches the i30 trim well..
-
Sounds great Dazzler
Will check it out!! Did you do anything for the back seats?
Cheers

No not for the back seat (a bit hard to find something to fit split folds neatly)

Finishes today...I would put the onus on Supercheap as to whether they are suitable for our car... Mine are looking a bit tatty I might lash out and get a pair too

I will fit them 2moro and let you know how they look (photos maybe)...

Here are the pictures of the new seat covers from supercheap...
The first picture is my old ones and the 2nd picture the new ones..(only taken with my phone...

They are very comfortable but like most full seat covers they are a bit of a pain to fit (the i30 has a plastic cover at back of the seat which clips underneath - it is neat but makes fitting seatcovers a bit trickier)
The Airbag compatible bit you pay extra for is just a gaping hole in the side  (I could have done that) :P
-
Thanks Dazzler
Great stuff!! Much appreciate your feedback.

Hi Dazz,
i noticed that gaping hole in the side, but the new covers are covering also the upper part of the seat and the label "SRS AIRBAG".
Is that ok?
(by the way, they seem so soft and smooth, that i felt almost touched the monitor :))
-

I hope so ... It is a bit deceiving..The top part of the hole is is aligned with the label...
P.S. No worries twodogs... you owe me $229

put it on his tab.

After a closer look here (to be honest, after many closer looks )...

...i daresay there is no problem with the side airbag, as it deploys upwards (see 1:01) :)

-
Morning Dazz,
I got a pair yesterday and they are great. Nice and comfortable and not to bad to fit particularly as I had a second set of hands.
The $259 ones don't have a unstitched section like the ones you got they have what they call side seams that split open upon deployment of the airbag as they are constructed using a computerised controlled stiching process and a specialised thread.
Thanks for your help all the same Dazz and I am very happy with the product.
Cheers

Thats interesting.. their display was very confusing so I got the Manager to help me find the right ones...
He is usually pretty spot on :'( Oh well they are very comfortable anyway...)
I thought the sale finished on Friday?
-
The $259 wasn't a special price just normal retail but I guess being a new product they put it in their catalogue.

as far as the price of seatcovers goes, ive seen them as cheap as $30 up to $300.
-
it looks like a vb or vc commodore,a very rusty one.
did you by any chance make out to see what the seat covers was?
-
The side airbag that deploys upwards in the crash test appears to be the curtain airbag that comes out of the pillar.

the covers where in a super cheap cataloge, cheap and nasty.

I meaned the other one, which deploys from below the waist height to the upper door panel height :)

two dogs, i like my sheepkin covers, they are a good fit and comply, i just got home from a 4 1/2 hour drive non stop not uncomphy. i forgot what i payed but the guy who makes them fitted them. shortage of sheep this year due to the drought, but since they had good rain a month back they are starting to stock up on sheep so next year price might improve?
-
i'm not bothering to cover mine, just scotchguard and leather stuff
and i just have to put in my two cents worth - i detest sheepskin covers - ugly looking things
i have seen these microfibre whatever ones on ebay if anyone intesrested
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HYUNDAI-I30-HATCH-12-2007 (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HYUNDAI-I30-HATCH-12-2007-ON-SX-SLX-SR-MODELS-CUSTOM_W0QQitemZ360165111842QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item53db837822)
with or without the airbags things, can be personally fitted if in melbourne? (i think), and inc rears from $140
-
If I had the SR (part leather) seats I probably wouldn't have put Sheepskin seat covers on.. But I like them there is nothing more comfortable on a long trip even on very cold or very hot days...
-
Hello Everyone,
I was asked recently how I have found the new seat covers from supercheap! Have found them very good! I have generally thought supercheap as a little crappy but these seat covers are good quality and have had little in the way of anything (fluff etc) come off them. Great Buy! Thanks Dazzler
Cheers

-
No probs M8.. Which I had got the correct ones without the gaping hole in the side (but apart from that also very happy) very comfortable and well made ...
P.S. Supercheap quality is fine .. (even most of their brand name stuff) and I'm not just saying that because my future son-in-law is the Assistant Manager at the Morley (W.A.) shop :D
-
i boought a set of ilana seat covers on the weekend... i had some "plastic" slip one illana ones for my 4x4 they have lasted 2 years so far and dont look like dying.
the i30 ones are fitted, the fit is good, air bag compliant! they even come with an armrest part for the rear seat... mine doesnt have and arm rest, but thats no prob as the "cut out" for it zips up!
to me seat covers are a worthy investment, not only do they help against stains/damage, they also gaurd against the seats fading, but meh each to their own...
heres a link to the company

I unstitched the backs and just use the facings with elastic straps ...
btw i forgot to mention they also make sheep skin throw overs!!
-
Hey Dazzler,
Your future son-in-law wouldn't know just when Supercheap will be having their next 20% sale (ie $50 off the seatcovers) would he?
Cheers,

-
My black sheep skin covers are great. I pulled them off my last i30 and put them on my current one. The seats still looked brand new after 18months of hard use.

Supercheap catalogue in my letterbos today. 8)

What size seat covers are people in oz buying? I have returned two sets already which supposedly would fit with the airbags. Whilst i got them on they didn't really fit snugly. I thought the only way around was to go custom?

The Seat Cover Brand that Two Dogs and I got from supercheap last time didn't have a size Just two different styles (integrated and separate headrests) They fit fine...
The seats in my wife's Tiida are like arm chairs I doubt my new seat covers would fit her seats.. but fit mine o/k..
Supercheap are pretty helpful they might let you try some in the carpark
-
I ended up ordering some custom mades
My workplace deals with a manufacturer and i found out i could get them at cost. 8)
-
I have also been looking for sheepskin front seat cover,
have been supercheap and ilana, both have the "deploy safe" ones,
ilana said they had bought a special sewing machine from germany to do that.
my worry is how reliable those "deploy safe" thing is?
Will the seam open up when needed and allow the airbag to come thru naturally
and expand fast enough to do the job?
Warranty does not mean a lot, as i might not be there to claim it!
What is your thought on this "deploy safe" stitching?
-
myar .. a good point...mine actually have a gaping hole where the airbag is..
Might be worth doing some googling to see what there is on the web about problems with these.. still no guarantee I know..
-
well the ilana ones come with some paperwork you have to send back in... cant remember what its for, but im sure they must be pretty good, you cant go just claiming something will work, especially with airbags! i mean your playing with peoples lives! i trust them
-
As far as i know, side airbags are optional. There aren't any specifications by law in US or any other country regarding to side airbags and apparently, to after market seat covers. As a result of the car's manufacturer choices, the effectiveness is tested in crash tests.
Unfortunately, NHTSA and other US organizations (also specialized in testing additional car accessories - such as child restraints - and responsible for numerous recalls) doesn't contain any other information about seat covers, except of using them according to manufacturer's guidelines.
That said, seems to me that the only way to claim any inconvenience, passes through the court hall but as you've said "i might not be there to claim it!"
Check this also: http://wesaveyourlife.com/pages/content_en.html
It says something about approval from TÜV Rhineland.
If you speak German, you may find aditional information at http://www.adac.de
-
Thanks babis.. nice googling :D
-
You're welcome Dazz :)
This site -- http://www.nhtsa.gov -- contains interesting information. A driver's consumer's paradise - i think

Yes very good.. you can find almost anything on the net if you look in the right places.. I love it.. :D
-
heres a photo of my seat covers... and yes i have a seat cover over my seat cover... wait till you see the floor mats over the factory floor mats LOL yes i am a but of a clean car freak...

Hi agent31,
I thought that I was the only person anal enough to have mats-over-mats...there you go...
But having seatcovers-over-seatcovers? Well that's truly weird.... You are indeed a sick puppy!!! :D
I fitted a pair of the Supercheap deploy Platinum sheepskins to my front seats 2 days ago. They fit snugly and are quite comfortable. Today a fellow worker that I was showing-off my new baby to commented on how luxurious the covers looked.
-
its just a throw over on the drivers seat! just means i have to wash the drivers one much less besides its easier to wash a thow over than take those fitted ones off!
-
I got some custom seat covers from ebay - arrived today. Great price for front and back. All very nice and all the various appetures seem to be in the right place but....
I am NOT a contortionist and I can't get the things on. How is a person meant to reach the ties, let alone tie them? Any ideas??? Any hints? How has anyone done this? I have been crawling around for the last hour and have one seat half covered. I may cry any moment now.
-
Then these covers in a mag the other day.
Don't have them or seen them ,so buy at own risk.

Others have fitted them - and slashed their hands doing it. Apparently there's some sharp edges down there so be careful.
I'll be fitting mine after I get them on Fathers Day.

Sorry ozwildflower.. but there is no easy way i'm afraid.. I am pretty solid and also find it hard to squeeze in behind the seat to reach and tie the straps...Just take your time and don't cut yourself on those sharp edges like myself and several others did...
-
Yeah i cut myself nicely. No easy way. 2 person job made it a bit easier for me. You can unclip the bit at the back but then you need to hold it out the way when you try and tie them off under the seat. I am not looking forward to when mine need a wash lol.

time and paitence... where are you located? if you cant do it im sure someone on here can help you...

Nice thought, thanks. I'm actually thinking of asking Tweed Hyundai if they'll finish fitting them for me when it goes in for it's 1000km service shortly. I seem to have 1 1/2 seats done..but haven't tackled the back yet. I've also noticed that a bit of the carpet under the brake has not been glued down - so they can do that at the same time.....maybe  Guess that is one good thing about crawling round fitting mats and seat covers..you find out if anything is 'wrong'.

I can't believe that you guys spend so much time, effort and money on making your cars look so awesome - then totally ruin the appearance by adding scruffy seat covers............

The poor blokes in the service dept. are going to put them on for me. I'll have to smile very sweetly and look helpless methinks or they may never forgive me.

taxi drivers use those.

Yeah, really comfortable
I can't imagine what happens if a joint snaps...
-
best seat covers ever!!! they give you a massage, and allow your back and butt to breathe!!!
-
:'( :'( :'( They looked better in the flesh.. I have transferred them to our "lesser "car and switched them over so the airbag openning is on the inside of the seat (The wife's car doesn't have side airbags..) They are very comfortable...
I am quite enjoying the bare leather in the new car..

Must have been quite a job; removing the fleece from the bear.....

OK. Got mine on today.
Didn't take too long and only one small piece of skin off.
I got down on the floor (front and back) with a very popwerful torch and sussed out the sharp bits. There's a few.
Mine are just cheap(ish) sheep skin style from Supercheap Autos (Fathers' Day gift from a son and a daughter).
I need them because no matter how careful I am, I always manage to leave marks on the seats after I come out of the surf.
Quite comfy, too.
No side air bags to worry about.
Oh. And I found a missing silver chain I thought I had lost forever. Hidden in that little flap behind the gap in the passenger seat.
Bonus!
-
hahaha BONUS!!!
-
Glad to see your father's day present made you
gay I mean happy...
Unlike the "poms" I like sheepskin covers (and they look better without a split in the side)

*watches dazzler go full grandpa spec with, sheap skin steering wheel cover, seat belt protectors, center console cover, seat covers AND pedal covers in his hybrid*
hrmmm who needs air bags :p

Nah.. I'll stick with my non furry animal skins on the new bus.. :D
and I HATE lambswool steering wheel covers and seat belt protectors

i think everyone but that 98 year old lady down the road with a 1967 corolla (you all know you have seen one) hates the seat belt protectors and steering wheel covers!!!

Why buy a car with nice seats the cover then up?
To be honest I actually find the seats in the i30 SLX to be a little on the hard side.. Sit in an i45 for example and you immediately feel a huge difference (my previous car (07 civic) was more inline with the i45 than the i30). The drivers seat is actually worse than the passenger seat in my car, so I think the SX drivers seat (which I test drove) is actually better for me than the SLX one.. In short drives it isn't that apparent but in longer drives it begins to bother me.
I am slowly getting used to it but still thinking of the wool seats simply to soften the seat a little.. Of course then I have to deal with the daggy factor of wool covers...
That said the actual material and colour of the seats are very good as they won't discolour too easily..
EDIT: I think it is actually the lumbar support in the SLX that causes the main problem for me, even when you turn it down as low as it will go it is still pushing out a bit and as I am 6'4" it is slightly in the wrong position for my back... <- Thats my theory anyway
-
6'4" tall .. for some reason we have lots of tall members on here
-
good head room ;)
-
good head room ;)
yeah the i30, well at least the cw which is all I have driven, has really good head room.
I had a look at the seat covers, and decided to hold off a few more weeks to see if I just get accustomed to the seats..
-
I've not noticed if the headroom between cw and hatch is different, and I've got one of each.
-
it would surely be the same?
-
it would surely be the same?
i just checked,it is.
-
and back to the topic of seat covers. I'm just using cloth mechanics style throw over covers similar to the snap on tools ones.
-
LOL the snap-on ones are like $60 each when i priced one up (a few years ago now might be cheaper)
-
i scored 2 for free.
-
genuine snap-on ones? you must have spent $2K+ to get them to throw in free stuff!
-
they came from the wife's, bosses, partner,he's a mechanic.
