Title: Replacing the Battery in a Toyota Prius Hybrid
Post by: Dazzler on November 23, 2018, 03:30:10
This is a really well done video I came across by accident. I thought @Shambles @AlanHo @tohis and a few others might find it interesting. The guy makes it look easy but that amount of screwing would take me a week. Plus I'd end up sticking things in the wrong places (so to speak!)

Easier than an engine change but still tedious. I get the impression Toyota didn't want to make it too easy.

Yeah, I don't know what the story with gloves was/is!

Renault seems to have an easier way for their full EV's and Tesla says they can automate the process to take two minutes.

The prius replacement seemed to be just a few cells tough, which makes sense. But in a good battery each cell should be loaded about the same. Guessing Toyota want it to take some time so that the service centres can charge their customers something. :)

I would be inclined to wear much thicker and longer insulating gloves if I were messing about with such a high voltage system. My car has a number of warnings plastered in various places about potential death

Having watched and listened to those guy(s) performing - I'm completely out of breath and in awe of the intricate design details that were involved in the hybrid system.

Well I enjoyed that immensely. I do admire tear-down video makers.

Great post :goodjob:

Glad you did. Quite a bit of work. Made me exhausted just thinking about it!  :crazy1:
