the easternats after nine years at sandown international raceway in Melbourne, saw its tenth year not to be staged there.instead it was to be held at Calder park raceway,in the eleventh hour it was cancelled.after competing twice in the easternats and attending as a spectator seven times i was not happy it was cancelled.i receive an email from a mate saying there would be a peaceful protest rally of around 300 cars and their owners opposite one of bob janes tyre outlets in outer Melbourne.i wasn't able to attend and I'm glad i didn't.my eldest son and some of his mates went and said it wasn't a nice site.around 2,000 people turned up,it turned nasty and the tyre store was smashed up and a news camera man was bashed, just trying to do his job. I'm appalled at the actions of the five or six idiots that trashed the shop and even overturned a car,not to mention the poor camera man. what have our young people turned into. I'm allmost embarrassed to mention Ive spectated and competed in such an event like the easternats. :'( [ you can view the carnage on you tube.]

Yes indeed. What is the world coming to? I'm glad no relative of mine was there. Yobs.

I get the impression the police are hoping to identify and punish the main culprits using these and other video footage... I certainly hope they feel the wrath of the law....Very un-Australian.. :'(
-
my son and his mates craped them selves when the smashing started and got the hell out of there.
-
around half the croud left when the idiots started the carnage.
-
Some of them should be easily identifiable. Pretty sure I heard one or two American accents in the 1st commentary . Like you said though Dazz, from what I've learned in the past 2 years that's very un-Aus

Didn't make the news here in UK, not that I seen anyway, but I bet if it was England football supporters it would have been reported globally
No Police.
No riot squad.
No one in authority.
Where were they!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just hope the insurance covers the cost to repair etc

There were a few police there but being Australia they didn't really expect it to escalate (they called for back-up which was pretty quick to come..)
I hope Insurance does pay up (i feel sorry for the franchisee) but may not as from my years selling Insurance (as a banker) Riot damage was usually an exclusion :'(

Sadly, I also agree.
I'm disappointed with gen-y and their complete (I was going to say disrespect) misunderstanding of what is "acceptable" however, my parents probably said the same of my generation. And me.
Even so... this sort of behaviour is seriously poor. I'm not sure how to arrest it other than "belting the crap out of these f***ing idiots". (interesting modification :D)
I really think we've bowed far too much to the American "Politically Correct" approach which has attempted to give everyone, including those without sensible direction or reason, to infuence society. To its detriment.
And if I've offended our American members, I apologise.
My blame is not directed at you. or even your government. It is a sad fact of life that America (as an entity) affects us all and what you do, is what we do...

three of the idiots have been caught so far.
