where to start, what I don't want to do is spoil things for Andy because his new i30 edition must arrive soon s'pecially after I put my two penn'oth in this morning for him. He asked if everything was OK I and I said 'Aye, it is for me, but Andy who's still waiting for his NEW car is gerrin really fed up and expressin that on the tinterent for all the world to read' He said 'Andy who' I said 'I dunno his surname, but how many Andy's have you got waiting for a new silver i30 edition'. He scribbled on a piece of paper. Hope that moves things along for ya Andy :lol:
OK... I went in this morning making it clear that I had to leave for the coast (work not pleasure) at no later than midday. Then he started dealing with another punter!!!!!! my heart sank. He came back to me quickly tho. Then we went thru reams of paper work before I swiped me card, this was of course followed by the security call from the bank requesting my mothers maiden name et al.
After moving all my junk, essential junk that is, from my old smoker into my shiny shiny spankiin new i30 Edition I slid behind the well, set me sat nav up... <oh the sat nav problem is now solved, I purchased a sat nav bean bag and my GO910 sits there sweat as ya likes> keyed in the address of the hospital in Birkenhead and then rolled out of the garage to the nearest filling station, the tight asses only gave me 20 quid of gas :mad:
Sat there for a minute or three getting my bearing,. lights, toot the horn, set the radio for MY station, adjust the seat ya know you've all done it (except Andy of course, but he'll be with us soon).
Then I rolled out down a few side streets to Salford and onto the motorway at the Eccles roundabout. By now of course, I had a semi on and felt like the king of the road. I'd not gone far when the sat nav started screaming at me, I glanced at the clock 90 miles per hour Oops....
Ya need to know that I am moving from a one litre Yaris and boy can I ever feel the difference.... it fairly zips along, what car magazine said it needed pushing on the open road, I say bollox, it goes like stink.
What Car also said the steering was light at speed, again I disagree it felt perfik to me....
Drove thru every kind of weather you can imagine, rain, hail, sunshine a bit of wind... But I was snug as a bug in a rug with my CD belt out some sixties and seventies classics at a pretty high volume.
Got to my destination half an hour quicker than I normally do, but I guess I will be paying for that in fuel, godda slack off a bit and get more money conscious..
The only thing that really defeated me was the bloody clock, I tried all ways to set the time, couldn't find anything in the book and still can suss out how to set the clock.
Other than that I am absolutely cock-a-hoop with it, it's bloody brilliant.
Oh and there is no cubby on the dash... oh ummmm

Great that you feel so good that you can recount all the best bits. There are no real bad bits anyway.
The clock will keep you busy for a while, but you've all the time in the world to figure it out. It's just hours and minutes after all :D When you find the RDS setting in the menu, the clock will set itself when you tune into an FM station I guess.

Hm, try turning off your radio/cd etc and then press Setup button. Then set the clock ;)

Thanks guys, the clock'll get sorted. My two Daughters are coming tomorrow and I will take them somewhere nice for lunch, in my shiny shiny new car of course...
I think I am gonna have to take a sleepin pill tonight to make sure I don't get up and go for a midnight drive :D.....
Hope Andy gets sorted real soon and we can maybe meet somewhere local for a coffee and chew the fat on the i30 scene......
Otherwise we will have to wait for a owners club get together. Perhaps in Oz, funded by our hosts of course.
Oh and there was an ix35 in the forecourt.... very nice indeedy

Nice review of a new owner, you are echoing the sentiments of most of us here Asa, the i30 really is a good car, no matter what you have come from :D :D :D

Oh and whilst I think on, what's the skinny on GAP insurance, does anyone have it, I told the sales guy I'd have to sleep on that one.
I did however invest in the first three years service deal, have I made a booby???? I had it with my last car and it was OK in that it made me stick to the service plane

Thanks for the mention at the dealership. I can't be too hard on them though, they have been nothing but courteous with me really, and it's not their fault the supply chain is pants. Today they offered me a loan car till mine comes through. I didn't ask, they just offered. You can't say fairer than that really. Big thumbs up to Manchester Hyundai :)

GAP insurance is something they want you to take for the horrible thought that you are involved in an accident and your own insurance does not cover what is left on the personal loan you have taken to pay up the car. Are they offering Hyundai GAP or another manufacturers?? I had it on my last Subaru but the policy whilst set up with the Scooby dealer was actually through Seat as theirs was the best value at the time, I think I paid something like an extra £240 for 3 years GAP cover (which was of course not needed :rolleyes:)
It kinda depends on your own feeling, remember that your new car is already worth 17.5% less than you coughed up for it, since the government in theor wisdom have swallowed the VAT never to be seen again :evil: :evil:
As for service plans, depends on what you have paid for it again, my 1.6 petrol 1st year service was sub £150, the second one will be sub £250 and the third cheaper than the second so if it is costing more than about £600, I wouldn't bother, remember that your 5 year warranty is only valid if serviced, that should be enough to make you stick to the plan..................

Had I taken that out (at £640) I would have been well miffed, as my supplying dealership folded at the first sign of the recession :rolleyes: which was a couple of months after I drove away from their forecourt.
The GAP is totally subjective. For our overseas mates it is designed to pay the difference between market value and replacement value if you have a whoopsee. Now, if performing stints at 90+mph is your thing (and I guess it might be, Asa are you listening :P) then go for it. Otherwise, don't. Or not. Or maybe. There see - have I helped you decide?

Yeah I guess so! I don't need it at present as I can borrow the other halfs car (she's a learner driver), but she has her test in two weeks, - if she passes, I'll be taking them up on their offer!

If my little intervention got you a loaner Andy, excellent, they should not have needed a kick up the rear, they should look after us Hyundai customers :-)...
The GAP, well I am not usually a speed kind, I am happy to get in the line in lane one and plod on in the happy knowledge I will be getting good mileage for my gas. So I am gonna skip that one. I haven't had credit and if I have a smash which was a write off, I guess I will be very ill after it and not be too bothered about the car for a while.
The service plan was six hundred :'( so it seems that this is what I would pay over the three years anyhow (not withstanding price increase). If they go bust.... Well, what can I say, I never even contemplated that :-[

That was one of the first things I noticed about the i30, she's a pretty wide car, certainly wider than an Impreza :eek:

That slightly higher consumtion on 90mph or in general compared to diesel is by far compensated with low starting cost so its a win even there :cool:
PS must say few expressions made me laugh like crazy :lol: :lol:

Best bit about the i30 is its effortless .
You don't realise how fast you are going until you look at the speedo
Keep speed down while running in so you'll get better MPG later on.
Also, you will now need to keep a watch out for the speed cameras

I find that at low speed it is light but gets heavier as the speed increases. The dealer can tweak to make lighter/heavier if you ask them.

No it's an independent hospital in Heswall, the quack wanted to detain someone so I had to go and do a managers review, to make sure it was all legal. then sign the back of the section papers.
Then more importantly write up my INVOICE... kerching :mrgreen:
I've just paid my 76 quid to renew my registration, I think I will let it lapse next year, I can't see me doing another shift on wards :'(

My dealer followed a proper FSA-style mini financial review with regard to the purchase and concluded I didn't need GAP. I was very impressed as they make a lot of money from GAP. It was reassuring that they did not try to force it one me.
