Title: Ground Clearance Diesel i30
Post by: ajp3830 on April 03, 2010, 10:22:07
Hi
I received my new i30 early march. Its early days yet with only 2000 klms on the clock ,but apart from one annoying issue its 'so far so good'
My only issue is that the front underbody occasionally scrapes the ground especially when entering driveways which are slightly more angled to the street.
It appears to me that my underbody towing point tends to be the area of concern.
Any one else having this problem as its a real pain.
Otherwise 'I love it'
ajp

i have had this problem as my car is lowered. i found that if i pull into a driveway or exit one on an angle slightly i dont scrape. it cant hurt to try.

Mine isn't lowered but I occasionally have the same issue and have found that angled entry and exit does the trick nicely. That little black plastic bib spoiler also doesn't like some of the higher concrete stops in supermarket car parks (so be careful)

Its nice to know Im not alone on this one. When I first approached my driveway as I always did in our Astra, I got quite a shock when I inspected a large scrape mark on the drive.

Yes I found this out to my cost when I first went to work in it.

One side of the car park has kerb stone to separate the bays and I parked too close and caught the "bib" bit.  I try to park on the open side or leave gap, if I remember!

Thankyou for the help.
My main point of contact with the ground is the towing point, and sometimes the front bumper.
I will try approaching at the angle ,which is what I always do with speed humps anyway. It also seems to take the bump out of speed humps.
