Not enough info to help other than to suggest you might want to look for a fuse you can pull to stop the problem for now.

Or pop the globe (as I said on FB) until you/we get the problem sorted.

How much more info do you need ?

Yep I've taken out the lugadge light bulb and switched of the cabin lights can't stop the dashboard display flashing boot open on the car graphic .still flattens the battery over night.

We haven't got an FD or GD to check the switching. Hopefully someone on here or the F group will come along shortly with some answers. In the meantime maybe disconnect the negative terminal of the battery when you have finished with the car for the day and leave it on a trickle charger.
I know it's a right pain. Sorry I can't help further.

I'll bet it's integrated into the latch itself

And what series?

And what series?
After further investigation I'd put money on it being a GD! :whistler:

Not seeing a 1.4 GD. Anyway I'd be checking the harness on the lock assembly or the lock is faulty. On a FD it's in the lock and if it's a GD I'd expect same.

Cheers Gerard, Author of thread is called GDi30, but it could just be a coincidence...

:P gd130, found the 1.4 in the parts catalog, service let me down , anyway :head_butt:

Yes, the reason I suggested pulling a fuse over removing the globe is for the possibility of a (partial) short circuit in the harness or latch.

Re dash light
If you disconnect the wires to the boot latch/fitting then close the boot does the dash light go out?
Re light in the boot
If you manually depress the light plunger which operates the light does the boot light go out?

Keep in mind if the harness is removed, the lock is electric so have a strategy in place so you can reconnect it with the hatch door that is locked and can't be open..
What light plunger are you referring to Lester? Is there one? I don't believe the rear hatch has the switch in the body like the other doors it's built into the lock mechanism.

Just checked my gd lock and yes no separate plunger.
(Think the fd has one but again unless anyone can confirm or not).
The switch is incorporated in the lock bit as said.
By pushing the hook to the lock position with say a screwdriver you hear a thud as it locks.
My boot light went off.
Also, there is a small slit where you push a blade in to manually unlock if the wire harness is unplugged.

I think this has been sorted anyway. In another thread. Op modified the boot stops to make the boot shut tighter and now the light goes out.

It was on the i30 Owners FB page!
Glyn Davies @gd130 must have forgotten about this thread or assumed Members on here would be on there too.
Funny that his initials are GD as well!

It would be nice if the non-FaceBook folk - i.e. ME! - could get a glimpse of the solution.

SOrry i did kind of mention what the fix was and Tagged Gyn to visit this thread..
To quote him word for word from facebook..
Problem solved. The switch is in the lock mechanism. For some reason I had to cut 3mm from the 2 bottom rubber buffers. So as the lock engaged properly. No adjustment in the lock or receiver.
