Title: Hyundai i30 CRDi HBT version :) - 2008 - Andrejs
Post by: andrejs on April 13, 2010, 14:10:06
Hi,

to introduce my car :) and me :)

For now i have three modifications
    - HBT chip tuning - from stock 115 hp / 255 NM to 136 hp to 306 NM
    - HBT Cold Air Intake (CAI) - (we till have to measure to know for certain whats the gain, for now it seams its 9 HP or 19 HP we had anomaly so we need to check :D)
    - HBT made strut bar - its functional not for the looks :)
    - Cruise Control
    - Xenon headlights

Next in line are
    - HBT LSD
    - HBT Upgrade front disks from 280 mm to 300 mm - better braking, and brakes will stay cooler longer
    - HBT Change stock Intercooler for little bigger one - it's on it's way
    - HBT Change piping from rubber to inox from intercooler to Turbine and with bigger diameter
    - HBT Change stock turbine for little bigger one - from 2.0 CRDi Tucson - also VGT turbine
    - Eibach springs Lower the car 3 cm
    - As needed change exhaust after changing the turbine

This are the performance measurement of the car :)  for now

Wow, I love the data (measurements) you've posted.. Damn it must go great now.. 0-100 in 8,6 seconds

Please keep us posted with the future upgrades.. I can't wait to see how it will be with bigger intercooler and turbine

Yes, it will definitely be interesting once you tune it that much! It will be even better than my previous car - Accent 1.5 CRDI, which was tuned to almost 140 hp. It was so funny, when all sorts of BMW's and Audi's were accelerating, and then they see me passing them slowly

well... both me and service guy (owner of the service) ... want to see how much you get with every tune up :) so there will be some more measurements..

and the other night i did have a little race with some BMW series 3 (it was coupe version - 3dr) i did not see which engine it had but i was always the same with him (he was in front of me on red light) ... i think the guy was pissed cose he could not get away from me :) so next time we meet probably he will be behind me

Hahahahahaahahaha
i was watching the picture and something was bothering me and couldn't get what it is!! Then i got it, we are from the same city

How did you get 8,6s in 0-100km/h? With i guess only chiping for now and i30 140HP with 304Nm is long 10.3s.

Do you have to declare chipping to the insurance and pay more than for standard i30

Also, how will this effect your warranty?

Can't also wait to see some movies - acceleration 0-100, 80-120, 120-180.., when you're done with the upgrades :)  Just to see how it looks like and so I can be unhappy about my i30

well i think for simple chip tuning that you can get on line for few hundred euros :) and get 20 hp and 50 nm of torque :D

i'll se about the movies - i'll take my fujifilm s5600 and one of my friends for him to record :)

I know what you mean. Mine is also chip-tuned :) But from 90 to 115  - but the torque is better than stock one's (around 280Nm). The same thing was with the previous car. It cost me arund 350 EUR with 30% discount

Up to the late 1700's, everybody travelled on the left side of the road because it's the sensible option for feudal, violent societies of mostly right-handed people.

Jousting knights with their lances under their right arm naturally passed on each other's right, and if you passed a stranger on the road you walked on the left to ensure that your protective sword arm was between yourself and him

With all those engine and exhaust mods you will not gain anything, unless you reprogram or change your computer. The existing computer is programmed to compensate for any modifications and will try to pull everything back to standard levels. I know how your tuning box works because I use one, but this only affects the fuel pressure. But it would still be interesting to see if this can be overcome.

well we will see....

we did measure this week :D finally no rain :D

but we did not have time to analyze it

final stage will be stand alone computer where you can tune every parameter :D but... i have to find one first that supports diesel. it seams I'll have to go to Austria or Germany for this final stage

Little update

Finlay no rain here :D so we wore able to measure gain for difference before and after CAI ...

But there is alway but, after we checked the data we had anomaly

One measurement where its 0-100 km/h 8,4 sec (19 hp gain before chip tuning), another is 0-100 km/h 9,1 (9 HP gain before chip tuning)...

We will repeat measurement this Friday and then i'll update the table on the first page with all results with and without chip tuning and CAI :)

As i have info, bigger Inter-cooler is on it's way :D so in few weeks we could see what is the gain with bigger Inter-cooler.

For now i'm in trouble finding bigger calipers for brakes ... There is no crashed Santa-Fe that i could take and transplant to my i30 :)

300 mm disk are not trouble, only calipers and how to make adapters cose i don't want to go to 17" rims :) it has to look stock on the outside as much as possible :)

:D I've got measurements for CAI+CHIP -- still waiting for only CAI :)

And here is small pic :)

Black - Hyundai Coupe GK (Tiburon) + planing to go Turbo :D, for now is stock + CAI - i think 140 HP stock -> 155 HP with CAI
Red - Me :D CAI + Chip tuning
Green - Hyundai Sonata 2.0 Crdi Automatic Transmission + Chip tuning - he is planing some fine tuning of chip and CAI - 138 HP stock -> 154 HP chip tuning

and updated table... This is just pic of the table from first page of this topic :)

anyone can have his i30 overhauled :) just come with a car to Croatia :)

you can have it :) just come to Croatia :)

well...

We did try measure a bit :) it's now 8.2 sec 0-100 kmh :) and its little more then 1 second faster to 160 km/h :)

it was raining whole day before measuring so for the real deal we are waiting one sunny day and it seams nothing till next week for that :( then we will to the real deal and get all performance facts :)

well it seams sun will shine tomorrow so we can measure it finally :)

:) and hope for the best time possible :)

next i will change exhaust I'll try to go 8.0 or even 7.9 :) that's the time I'm aiming with my 1.6 diesel :)

in few years when time will come to change the car I'll play with 2.0 diesel :)

finally great day for measurement's :)

after week or two of heavy rains, floods and so on finally we have results and then circuit breaker blow up on gtech and I'll have to wait for them to change it (the store was closed so we could not get new one)

so as i remember only two thing's
1. 0-100 km/h -> 8,1 sec !!!!
2. 0-402 m -> 15,8 sec !!!!

this is ... little monster ... 1.6 L 115 factory diesel now over 140 hp :D

i hope to have all data in few days and one little graph showing factory - tuned difference

That's an impressive perfomance for a "humble" 1.6d. Go for the GTi now 8)

i hope to have all data in few days and one little graph showing factory - tuned difference

That would be interesting too.

no chance :)

well one race i did get one Golf V GTI ... the guy was sweating and after 2 second race and my victory it was silent in his car :)

it was little rainy and slippery, there was 4 of them in Golf V GTI (2 girls at back and to boys at front - around 19-20 years old - they wore having fun laughing in car and so on)

on first round he started hard and was spinning wheels like crazy ... and it was so good run i did not have to try hard to beat him

second run, as i was looking in car i saw he was explaining to passangers that he started wrong and they laughed again but he was more ready, he started good but not good enough cose i was ready :) and i won again :)

third run it was little harder but i won... before third run i saw no one was talking in his car, no laughing, it was quiet and the guy change color of his face to white :)

so.. it's possible for me to slap Golf V GTI if driver is green, and especially if he is as bad as this one :) and its SOOOO MUCH FUN hahahahaha

but generally if driver is not green and has some experience... then... he will be a lot better

so finally measurements are
                       Tunned (Factory)
0-100 km/h ->   8,121 sec (9,773 sec)
0-160 km/h -> 22,289 sec (29,632 sec)
80-120 km/h -> 5,924 sec (7,309 sec)
402 meters -> 15,848sec@139,55km/h (16,967sec@129,28 km/h)

its 145 HP :) i still don't know how much torque but I'll be back with that info too

woa. 1st time seein this thread :O

this is all the same as my plans for the car. i am also going to uprate the turbo and improve handling with strut bar and coilovers.
Can you give more information about the intercooler? make etc, and if there was any improvement?
and also same with the CAI, any differance, sound etc ?

little  update. I was l busy lately so i was not on forum a lot ....

I just had little trip from Zagreb, Croatia - Graz, Austria - Vienna, Austria - Zagreb, Croatia ...

Filled to the top in Zagreb, drove 130 km/h all the time on highway :)

770 km there and back, still have little below 1/4 tank of diesel :)

Board comp says 150 km to go :) and 5.0 l/100 km

And this is tuned diesel from 116 HP /255 NM to 145 HP / 328 NM :) :) :) :) :)

This is the table how my tuning went... And i think i wont tune this much further :) this is it :)

I'll bet your using a very good brand and grade of oil.

Turbo's specs are up to 150 HP :) so there is no problem there

Oil is regular oil that you probably use :) i still go only every 20.000 km for regular service :)

Nice job Andrejs :goodjob:
Noticed that 80-120 km/h is (a little) worse with the bigger IC.
It would be nice to see a comparison with the stock car, of HP/RPMs and torque/RPMs diagrams

i could ask my service guy for them :)

and... i just filled my tank to the top... so this is 5.56 liter per 100 km :) its GREAT :)

Hi andrejs, that's a really great result and great car!
Only, if I invested all that time and money to get such a nice engine, I would change my oil more often (15 kkm sound like a compromise :)).

You know what impresses me about this? The lack of bullshit mods.

I can think of quite a few things that you could do, some useful, some not, to gain the last ounce of power.

Namely, lightened and possibly underdrive pulleys (so alternator, etc).
Methanol injection
Port and polish (yes this can be done on diesels)

All of which involve either a high level of effort, or a high level of possible bullshit going wrong :P

However they're all big jobs. Lightened pulleys on accessories (like altenator and power steering) isnt stupid, but underdrive usually is, you never know how a cars electronics\sensors will deal with decreased performance on its accessories.

Port and polish is expensive, and while its in truth very safe, methanol injection to me is just a pain.

Considering its an auto, can i suggest a gearbox specialist? often (though not always) the bands are adjustable, and a thinner oil can be used in order to get it to shift quicker. it'll feela little harsher, but the i30 shifts like a cloud right now, some harshness wont be much, haha.

So yeah, It surprises me that a CAI made any difference, considering the car technically HAS one already. It must be the bigger piping and the freer flowing filter.

Considered LPG injection :D thats a true performance technology for diesels.

andrejs, I like the color of your i30, too :)  I have BV i30cw myself.

Anyway, I love the idea of keeping the stock look of the car and having something similar to a jet engine under the bonnet.  :whistler:

Interesting thread! will be great to see how your Car turns out once you have all the mod's. do you think the larger turbine will loose some low rev Torque? thats interesting that you all use HP to measure power & NM to measure Torque. here we measure in metric now, so power will be measured in KW & TQ in NM but if we use American made Dyno's or American made software it will be HP & the Torque will be measured in Foot Pound.

Lester that is very interesting to learn about why we drive on left side of road. maybe same principal move some countrys to right side as right handed gear shift.

Also what sort of Dyno & do you have weather settings, did you use an engine Dyno to get the flywheel HP & TQ readings? or are they drive wheel numbers on a chassis Dyno?
