Hi i30 owners
Please correct me if Im wrong, but I am under the impression that the USB stick can only be inserted after the motor has started, then must be disconnected before stopping motor.
I am under the impression that the USB stick can be damaged if this procedure is not followed.
Please tell me Im wrong ,as its a painfull process.
I have the Hyundai USB and am thinking I will simply leave it plugged in while Im using it, ie regardless of starting and stopping etc.

I only disconnect mine when I want to alter the contents. Start with it in... stop with it in. No problems seen here in 2 years, although as you are inferring that goes against the advice in the owners manual.

I'm with Shambles, my cheapo stick has never been disconnected other than to alter contents and never had a problem

No problems with mine either and I've used several plus an mp3 player.

Same here 2 years no problems (there appears to be some risk but it must be rare to get damage)

Mine has been in for about 3 months solid now, no problems.

It should only suffer damage if you remove it while information is being written to the drive - well also providing you don't put it in fire, acid or anything else that would physically destroy it.
Given that the car is only reading information, I wouldn't worry too much about when you remove it - though preferably I would remove it when the stereo is off, regardless of whether the car is on or not.

Thankyou for your advice . I will just leave it plugged it and see what happens
