My 2011 FD has McGard locking buts, and I've damaged the key. Fortunately the wheel nut looks ok. I still have the slip of paper with the code I'm supposed to give to the dealer to order a replacement key. Does anyone know how much they're likely to charge for a key, and is there any way of getting a key by other means?

You could ask McGard directly (https://shop.mcgard.de/customer-key/) - an "official" McGard eBay shop is doing them for £25 as long as you have the code numbers.

To avoid any expense you could remove the locking wheel nuts and replace them with standard wheel nuts. If a thief is determined - he can remove them without a key anyway.
The last time I bought tyres for my car - the tyre shop never asked me for the key - so they clearly have "means".

I ordered a key direct from McGard online shop. 16 Euro including delivery, which equates to £14-52. Not too bad, methinks.

Not sure why I didn't try this before, but I tried the locking wheel nut key out of my 2015 GD i30 on the wheels of the 2011 FD, and hey presto, it fits. Makes you wonder how much the keys actually vary.
On the McGard website, when I typed in the key code and date, it came up with the same key number as the other car, but with an A on the end.

My i30 and my wife's i10 both had the same locking wheel nuts even though they were assembled in different countries.
A few months later I checked a number of Hyundais at the dealers and about a third of them had the same nuts. The dealer told me that the cars were shipped into the UK with standard nuts and fitted with locking nuts at the port as part of the pre-delivery work. Hence the problem does not originate in the factory.
