Title: Screeching from GD 1.6CRDi
Post by: BrendanP on September 30, 2019, 20:41:56
My 2015 diesel hasn't recently started making a screeching noise when starting up from cold. It disappears after operating the clutch and driving off. It seems to come from the gearbox side of the engine. Has anyone come across this before, or has an idea what it may be? I've posted a video on youtube.

I would be checking the drive belt area. 4 seconds of audio is not a lot to go on . Could be one of the idler pulleys or  pulley on the tensioner, also one way clutch pulleys can fail on the alternator. If the drive belt was completely removed and the car started  just long enough to confirm the noise has gone would be a quick way ofdiagnosis. Then you could check those pulleys for excess play and or roughness in the bearing, you could also check the alt clutch pulley.

what distance has the car travelled?

The car's done 54,000 miles. Next time it does it I'll have a listen around the drive belt end. It is quite intermittent though, doesn't do it often. My previous FD diesel is up to 184,000 miles and never made this noise.
