Title: GD 2012 WAGON 1.6 petrol Automatic gear selection problem

Greetings Im new member. My GD wagon auto has gear selection problem. I think probably under the console. Randomly, now almost every time, The selector stays locked in Park with no P illuminated. If I start car again with foot on brake it will illuminate and allow me to move gear shift. Other gears randomly dont then illuminate or engage. Ie the car stays in P but the gear shift moves. Start car again in N the I can select all gears, and drive the car, provided I dont go into P, which starts issue all over again. Any clues re the issue AND removal of console would be great.

I'm thinking inhibitor switch on the transmission but you really need to fault find it to be sure

An update. Two problems as it turns out. The gear shift selector  switch resolved the main issues.  A lingering delay before the reverse gear engaged was then fixed by replacing the inhibitor switch on the gearbox.
