Title: New engine tune with service
Post by: Morias on April 22, 2010, 14:04:53
I got my I30 diesel serviced on Monday (the 15,000km service but only actually on 8,000km) and mentioned my usual fuel economy is about 7.5 litres / 100 km.  They said they tested it and it was all in specs, however I have noticed that since I picked it up, the way the turbo comes on is a lot different.

Previously, I would get to about 2000 rpm, then there would be a big whack of power.  Now the power is not really noticeable where exactly it comes on, the whole acceleration process seems a lot smoother.  I presume they retuned / detuned the engine during the service.

I think the fuel economy might be better, but will have to wait a bit longer to properly test it.  The loss of jerky power surges is probably better, but I am not sure if I prefer the old way or the new way yet.

Hi Morias,

Sounds like things have been made normal because the power band is meant to be between about 1500 and 2700 in the diesel and I think you will now see an improvement in economy...
