Glad someone brought this up. I was thinking about posting a thread on Top Gear.
Here in Australia, Channel 9 has trumped SBS for the broadcast rights this year.
For as long as Top Gear has been around, SBS has done a great job with it.
Minimal ads so we get a 6o minute show over about 65 minutes.
Now, however, Nine runs a shortened 60 minute version with the obligatory 14+ minutes of ads.
And, despite their pre-launch promises, I think i've seen about 3 or 4 episodes which were new.
I'm rapidly losing interest which is a shame because I enjoy the show and its madcap presenters immensely.

They still produce some gems, in particular the Polar ice cap, Botswana and Vietnam specials stick in my mind. The Army/Fiesta episode was good, and the James May Airship was fun. As long as you remember it's not really a car programme nowadays, but entertainment for men.
I wouldn't condone it but I suspect they are available to download ad-free someplace on the web.

but entertainment for men.
and the fairer sex, I think that it is probably one of the few "mens" shows that a woman will quite happily sit and watch with you

my missus watches it with me and has a good laugh at there stupidity.

Exactly. A great program.
But - the three specials you mention above are all good but they lose their impact by the THIRD viewing.
It's obvious they stage manage these things but I have no problem with that. As you say, it's entertainment first, last and foremost.
However, apart from my daughter (31 y/o), I know no females who like it. My wife hates Jeremy with a passion.
