if you are talking about foot well lights, I have installed some (blue neon tube) but I haven't taken them from the dimmer. I currently just have them on as long as the car is powered but I also have a kill switch (power is tapped from the cigarette lighter power) but I will probably redo the wiring to probably tap the power from the front parker lights or if I can somehow find something that gives 12v when the headlights are turned on so they only power at night.

Probably not what you are looking for, but eyecon has tapped power from the dimmer for his led side mirrors so he could probably help you out?

The Mitsubishi Pajero has this feature. It's a good idea IMO.  They use orange colour which is not too intrusive. If I may suggest, take the power directly from the interior light circuit and they will go out with the interior light. This circuit will be robust enough to handle the extra load. Not many people want to see their shoes all the time so I would want mine to turn off automatically.

My VW Eos has it too,in both front and rear seats.

At my i30 It works in 3 ways.
1) When i unlock the car
2) when i open a door
3) when i  turn on the left dome light.
i used as  electric source my left dome light bulb.
the harness gives 7 volt....
