Title: cruise control
Post by: sunshine on May 15, 2010, 09:21:02
I have just completed a run in of our new I30.Travelled almost 3800kms.Car ran great, better than expected. However, the cruise control was not always reliable.this has happened before the trip, and speaking to the service department, advised to take the vehicle to the nearest Dealer along the way,but don't turn it off.Seems turning off resets the codes.Has anyone had this problem?

Sunshine Toowoomba.

Hi Sunshine

There have been a small amount of issues with the cruise.. I will move this post to Problems - Non Model Specific as you are more likely to get a result there...

..However,the cruise control was not always reliable...
In what way? A few of us have had the cc not able to be "set" at times and was rectified by attempting again after the car had come to a full stop. Never heard any reason for this but I've personally only had it happen when the temperature was hot.

My experience with the cruise control - which I am delighted with - is with a failure to reset when I have pulled up (for a snooze, etc.) and switched off the engine.
This happened regularly (after a 4000 km trip). The sequence was/is:

I would be interested if others have noticed this. (My car CRDi 2010 model)

Had an issue once when I couldn't turn on my cruise control on the freeway. Had to pull over, turn the car off, start it back up before i could turn it on again =/ I use it pretty much every day for last 3 months and only problem i've had with it so far.

Hi

Had exactly the same problem with the cruise control working some times and not others. I believe there is an issue with the software and it needs to be reset with the brake being touched to activate it. We have found that if it will not set you just touch the brake and then presto it works until you turn everything off. If you turn on the cruise control as you leave home and live in a built up area then once you hit the brakes it will be activated and then set when required, however if you live in an open area and do not hit the brakes after it is turn on it will not set.

Yeah, I had this happen again recently and I stopped the car (obviously used the brake) but did not restart the engine and found that the problem persisted.

Previously I believed that the engine needed to be stopped and restarted so planned to do that a bit further along only to find that it came good without no further interaction - other than trying again to set it every now and again.

Clearly with so many reported similar symptoms there is a fault somewhere.

The cruise control has a safety feature bulit into it where it will not activate until the brake pedal has been touched. Its so that the cruise control system knows that it can be turned off or overridden. I hink I read about it on thes site or another Hyundai site.  I  had the same problem where i would stop off to have a snooze at a truck stop on the way home from work and it would not activate until i hit the brake pedal, so now i get in the car and sttart the car and touch the brake pedal before i take off & have never had a problem since.

Had the same/similar problem once.
Had the cruse on.
Used the brakes to pull up on the side of the road.
Switched off engine but left it on accessories (I was playing with the radio settings)
Restarted and drove off.
Switched on the cruse system then tried to set a speed (100kmh).
Tried the same thing twice more with the same result.

Found I needed to either switch the ignition off fully before restarting or switch off the cruse before stopping.

Only did it the one trip, since then I haven't had it happen again!

I had a problem with the cruise control a while back where on occasion if I had the cruise on and changed down - to slow down - the engine would race until I'd firmly braked it back down and the ESP OFF light would come on. The ESP had been switching off intermittently for a couple of weeks at the time. Both issues turned out to be associated with a faulty brake light switch, which was fixed under warranty.

Definitely an issue with the cruise control as I experienced the same problem as others here. Twice on my most recent trip of 6000km and a couple of times before that. One of the main options I looked for when buying the car as I like my cruise control and use it a lot.

Found that touching the brake would help to bring it back online but not sure that worked every time..can't recall now.. :-[

I never had to stop as I was always able to get it back online after a bit of time. A nuisance yes but no major issue thankfully, just need to be aware. Works without any issues 99% of the time.

I too have had the same issue - put a post under the Diesel problems.  Cruise control fails to set when turned on when I start the vehicle.  Can come on any time later in the trip.  Have been recommended on my post - will move to here, it is maybe a brake light switch fault, so will see if this sorts it out.  ESP also seems to be related to this brake light switch fault.
