hi everyone,
my name is Dave and i'm from the gold coast, Queensland Australia. I have jumped on here to seek advice with my car. I have a 2012 Hyundai i30. it's a great little car. my only issue I have had with it since buying it 2nd hand last year is that there is a whirring noise coming from the steering column. is this a common problem with hyundai's and has anyone else encountered this? when i turn the wheel generally like reversing from a car park etc there is this whirring noise made. any advice if anyone has come across this before and what i need to do to fix it would be greatly appreciated. have a great day. thanks
dave

Welcome David,
I searched whirring noises on the site and only found one reference out of 14 threads that mentioned the noise related to the steering.
Refer this thread which may be helpful (I am on my way out so haven't got time to check it out right now)
I'm sure some others will chime in shortly.

Driven a few i30s :whistler: but never heard an electronic noise from the column
In Dazz's search the OP and one contributor talk about the noise being away from the steering column.

If by whirring noise you mean what I think you do, my sister's 2018 PD i30 developed this when near new.
At the first service the dealership checked it out and the technician made a note that it was a noisy bearing in the steering column and it would be fixed under warranty.
The following day, my sister received an email from the dealership to say that it would not be covered under warranty because, and I quote, "they all do it."
Due to other (more important) things happening in her life at the time she didn't pursue it, but I thought the dealership response was poor to first acknowledge it was a fault and say it would be repaired and then say it's a fault but a common one so it won't be.
