Title: 2009 i30 wagon repairs.
Post by: duggy on April 14, 2020, 07:22:14
First of many quotes to come, does this seem ok.
Self explanatory from the quotes what is getting done.
Was advised only 2 engine mounts needed doing but might as well do the lot.

Who's doing the work? What k's are on this chariot? What brands are being fitted? Genuine / non-genuine?

I have plenty of opinions for free, obviously you're not able to do any of this yourself?

Only details a what is on quote. The chariot is coming close to 200kms.
Already know 2 engine mounts a bad from the front to back wobble I can feel.
Have done full rotors and pads on an old 2000 model VW golf so have a little idea on cars.
Having the right tools is the only issue.
Was just a local mechanic found through Facebook and is local to the area.
He just replaced the spindle (pic shown is from add @$275 installed ) in the steering wheel to stop the knocking.

I'll be back, just helping a niece who also wants free opinions.

I've had  3 of these. Generally it's just the main engine mount that goes as it's hydraulic and collapses. The front and rear mounts(roll stoppers)do little other than limit th etorsinal movement.

It's possible the gearbox mount has gone, I have not noticed anything with ours yet.

Curious to know about the shafts and why x 2 .  usually the longest one spits the dummy and the inner joint wears and unloads grease.

Labour rate is knd, parts prices, not so sure, lot of unknowns

Thanks for your help. Might get it sent in and checked at a different mechanic and see what comes back.
Only 1 cv needed doing I just guessed while they did the brakes they could save some time doing them both.
Also figure if doing 2 engine mounts might as well do them all as well.
Maybe I'm overthinking the issues and should just get the main components changed.
Thanks again for your free opinions.

Auto? Is it passenger drivers side shaft that's buggered?

Hi Duggy,

Think I'd only be getting done what is needed. At those prices you'll nearly halve the bill.

Cheers,

Dazz

Here's the passenger  driver sideauto shaft, inner joint, you should be able to make out the wear through the case hardening. AT this point it likely gets hot, goes off balance particular under load as it no longer rotates concentric and become elliptical in motion.

The GSP part number is what I replaced it with (auto). I'm getting a shaft at the moment for another vehicle. $242 Supercheap lists as special order, going through my local bearing shop, $187 ( Brissy) or Bearing Wholesalers shaft at $150 (melbourne)

Back in 2016 $135

Of course getting all your own parts I'd expect teh labour reat to go up but It hink you could work out in front still and I expect a lot of this could be overkill

Sorry for late response. Thanks for the information you have sent through, Still haven't had a chance to find the last service paperwork.
Between work and a 3 year old i will investigate, I'm sure it was Right hand boot that was cracking, In regards to the mounts I know it was 2 just not sure.

Hopefully this weekend i can find some more info.

Between the 2 I30's have a small list of issues starting to grow :disapp: :disapp:
