Title: 2018 i30 SR PD 1.6T-gdi Noisy Alternator
Post by: kaizoku on June 19, 2020, 10:53:22
Hi all,

I've recently noticed my alternator has gotten a bit louder. It makes a whiny UFOish sound. It happened after installing the Intercooler resonator delete and usually starts to happen when the engine is at operating temperature.
I'm not sure if its a big issue, but could possibly be an issue in the long run. all my lights a working fine(i.e no flickering etc.)

see link for noise

my car also has the following mods:

Secondary Cat Delete
Resonator muffler delete
Intercooler resonator delete
3 inch Cold air intake with K&N pod Filter
eibach Lowered Springs (25mm-30mm drop)

Has anyone come across this before?

Very random.

Have you stuck a "stethoscope " on it to check bearings ??

Doesn't appear that you could be pinned on any of those mods for an alternator issue unless somehow one of the mods has caused additional heat in the area of the alternator.

Very random.

Have you stuck a "stethoscope " on it to check bearings ??

You can make a makeshift stethoscope to isolate engine noises or amplify them with cardboard or rubber tubing etc...

Forgot about the youngens.
Use a large screwdriver, breaker bar, piece of pipe  against alt to check of bearings. Ensure all.loose clothing,  sleeves, chains, hair, etc are secured .
Do not short out power terminals to earth/car body.

Just thought that seeing how hes done all this work, I wouldn't need to explain.
