Title: reduced power
Post by: Tom.PalmerI30 on July 20, 2020, 15:49:45
Hi, I am new to this forum I bought a 2009 I30 1.4 petrol 2-3 months ago.
I noticed when pulling out of junction i go to second gear and at around 3.5RPM and 5K RPM it feels like my car is struggling for power like there is a lack of power for 1-2 seconds. I am not mechanically minded but could this be a lack of air or a lack of fuel getting into the engine. after the split seconds of lower power it picks back up and pulls strong again.

Welcome Tom,

Wonder how long since the fuel filter was changed. Could be many things. Dodgy fuel, dirty injectors. Could even be the spark plugs breaking down a bit. What kind of mileage has it done and how long since the last service. Be nice to know how long since the plugs, fuel filter etc have been replaced.

I have only had it for 2-3 months, it has full service history in the books but i cant find details of the work thats been done. when i first got it the fuel pump died to hopefully they did the fuel filter too but I will call and find out. since the pump died I alwys put 99 octane fuel in it.
It has got just under 85K miles.

It is due a full service in November I am going to take it to the main dealer where the car was first purchased so things like spark plugs and filters will all be changed as it is nearing that 100K miles which will not be long from now with my commuting.

I have a similar problem in second gear but at far lower rpms (1000). It occurs rarely and feels like the engine is not reacting to the accelerator for a few seconds and then all of a sudden lunges forwards. I've put it down to a buggy ecu since there are no other driveability issues.

Do you see the same problem in other gears?

Hi Pal, it only happens in second gear when i pin the throttle pulling out a busy junction. It is a minor loss where u feel your body lurch forward before it picks up again. I shifted into 3rd early and it didnt have the same issues only low end torque wasnt enough to pick up enough speed fast enough.

I decided to take it down a quiet road to get to 70MPH and take it to red line and it is just middle of 2nd gear that is has a weird delivery of power
