Title: ashtray light
Post by: umbro on June 18, 2010, 18:15:24
Do any of you guys have the ashtray and the lighter illuminated? There is a transparent ring around the lighter that should be lit like the ingnition ring but there is no light, and also the ashtray has a little plastic cover that should let the light in the ashtray if there where any bulb. What i cant understand is why they went trought all the trouble making the transparent ring and not wiring a led or worse puting all the wires and not installing a bulb or led.

My ashtray illuminates when the lights are on, also the cig lighter.

Not the same for all members tho. A quick search using "ashtray light" brings up a few hits, eg

I'm not surprised the Australian i30 ashtray & lighter do not iluminate. they are talking about making it illegal to smoke and drive here.

It should be illegal.
It is illegal to drive and smoke with children in the car in South Australia.

its illegal in Vic also.when i drive I've got to smoke before i get in. and a base model hasn't got illuminated lighter and ashtray, only higher models i think.

same in qld...

i dont think they should make it illegal to smoke and drive... how can they? if i want to light up when im driving thats totally up to me, not some non-smoking anti-smoking p1ick that sits in an office and decides what i can and cant do, i think its enough you can't smoke in pubs/clubs, shopping centers, 4M from enterances to public places, 10m from a childerens play ground...

I guess there thinking is it is a distraction - like a mobile phone..

Looking for your lighter, etc (and the risk of dropping it between your legs..)

My first i30 Comfort had them all. My new i30 Comfort doesn't.

Most manufactures add extras over a cars model life. Hyundai take them away

I don't smoke but it's seems stupid to me that they did not fit an led to light cig lighter and ashtray, i mean if its illegal to smoke and drive at the same time then the ashtray and cig lighter should have been and optional thing, and also you can take it as a safety risk that there is no light because what if the passenger smokes and he does not see where he puts the ash and stars an fire  .And another thing that bothers me is that they didn't make all the windows auto, for a car with so may options for such i price i don't think it would have cost them more that 20$ per car at production costs, i know cars before 2000 that have auto windows and best off all you can open/close them from the remote(very handy on hot summer days).
